Metabo metabox compatibility

The new Metabox can be attached on top of classic systainer, but is not compatible with T-loc.
The old Metabo MetaLoc does work with systainers.

Looks to me like it is completely compatible with systainers.

They show the OG MetaLoc Box in the middle of the left stack here, and that one is completely systainer compatible. I know as I have several.

The update looks like it now has a swivel T-Loc style knob instead of the old latch.

HOWEVER!!! The new style uses the swivel latch for systainer style stacking/connecting, but to open the box you use the two side latches. See below pic of open box.

Although, the pic below shows how these new style can open while still having a box connected above. Something that wasn't possible with the old style. So maybe they are better than the older ones, but just more fiddly than t-loc.

Personally I have several of the OG Metabo ones, but only because they were literally half or less the price of T-Loc when I bought them.
If the price you pay for other types of cases is anywhere near the cost of a systainer I would choose the systainer myself.

They sure stack, but not attach to each other. Note how the stack on the right is connected, while stack on the left is not.
The older MetaLoc is functionally the same as Tanos T-Lock.
The new MetaBox is not. The latch in the center doesn't hook up to anything. It's more of a stop, that prevents upper MetaBox in the stack from sliding forward. Metabox has wedge-like feet, similar to what Systainer has, but 4 of them on every corner. Those feet hook up to the lid of bottom MetaBox, then the latch holds it in place. You won't be able to even turn the latch if you stack T-loc on top of the new MetaBox, as the latch doesn't have a matching slot in it.

MetaBox is not even lockable with its predecessor MetaLoc. What was Metabo thinking about? Patent issues?

All they have to do is modify the latch slightly. Perhaps even user could do it, or 3D print an alternative one (an aftermarket opportunity).

Just to chuck another option in the mix j have a couple of Metabo T-loc boxes as well as a load of Festool ones.
They're just the same as Festool T-Loc boxes.

Yeah, but those are the "older" Metaboxes.

They used to sell the Classic Systainer 100% the same. Then also the T-Locs the same, but later on they used this ripoff design (or licensed, I dunno). I see there are now even multiple revision of the ripoff design.

I also have some Metabo Toolboxes 100% identical to Festool 495024 and also made by Tanos.

Oh dear. You might be right that they don’t connect to T-Loc systems.

But it does seem like they connect to each other possibly. . You can see what looks like a smaller “latch keep” on the new boxes. Below pic screen grabbed from the video. .

Well, I saw that some of these boxes were coming up on Ebay cheap enough.
I bought one of the 215 high ones for twenty quid.
On the minus sides, it doesn't connect with my T-loc boxes. It's the same footprint but the catch is different and the wedge shaped feet wont connect with the T-loc lid.
I'm possibly missing something but the sizes dont work like T-loc or old Systainers either
118
145
165
215 and 340.
So they're just as bad as the new dodgy height systa8ners. That could have been done better.

However, I would say the box is stronger than the T-loc box, it has an extra front mounted handle and I would say the lid catches are stronger as well.
It looks like it will connect to old style systainers but I've not checked it yet as I don't have any.

I don't think the system is for me but it's a fairly good box all the same.

I'll keep using the older T-loc style and just get used to buying another box every once in a while.

what an unfortunate naming. I was just doing Blum Metabox drawers and searching for tips and videos was already quite annoying

Classic corporate ... product.

The Metaloc concept worked well. They avoided the T-Loc patent while the only real downside was the limited selection. So within the selection is was superior to T-Locs in some ways at better cost.

This new thing is simply an error. Nough said.

P.S.:
Just saw the tube video with the "product manager" lady presenting it. All clear why most of their stuff last few years is missing the important "details" while having good specs. That lady never ever worked on a site or in a shop. Is like a kid presenting a father's car ... and earlier the same kid making decisions what compression the engine should use. /scratches Metabo from the brands to check when looking for a power tool/

Totally disagree. The Metabox is better in every way. Tougher. That stupid untrustworthy single lid and systainer lock on the tanks sucks. The Metabox is easier to use locks better, open lower down units. It just rocks period. Tacos is garbage.

Yeah, personally I like the box thst I bought but I still punted it onto a workmate cos I would have bad to cbange too many boxes to get it to work.
The boxes are more rigid than the T-loc boxes I have now, have an extra handle and I like the strength of the catches.

The heights don't look like they'll play nice with each other and I'm not going to faff about with adapter plates to get em to do so.

Seems a decent type of box, just not for me at the moment.

Once you have enough boxes of a certain type, changing over to something (marginally) better becomes less and less interesting.
