I came across this link to a pressrelease by Metabo on a German powertoolforum

If you scroll down you can click on the links below the word "bilder" to see larger pictures.

The spindle/shaft looks VERY much like the one on festools centrotec drills. Doesn't it?

Now wouldn't it be nice if we could order the metabo "chuck"  and use standard hex accesories in a centrotec-like manner?

I personally have invested a lot in centrotec accessories already, and I think the consistency in thickness of the various "generic" hex accessories might cause a bit more runout than with the festool accessories; but it would mean you don't have to put on the heavier keyless chuck to use a spade-bit for instance (and I know festool has centrotec versions of the excellent zobo drills, but only in limited sizes, and they have no intention to bring out 18 mm or 22 mm centrotec zobo drills.

I definately am going to try out the compatibility when this stuff becomes available in the stores.

Update: I finally saw the metabo quick-release chuck system at a building-expo in Holland today. The centrotec-like chuck isn't what I expected it to be. It only has one release where the centrotec has a release in both directions.
The small metabo chuck just has the bitholder permanently attached to it, so it doesn't have added value to me. (The bitholder attached looks like the short version of the wera bitorsion bitholder)
