I bought the mfk700 basic which comes with the vertical base.

I would like to use to trim pvc iron on edge banding on 3/4 plywood.    I think I need the horizontal base . But should I get the 0 or 1.5degees?    Which bit will I need to get ? I have seen some Amana no trim bits and Festool version but the more I research the more I am confusing myself!  Thanks for any help you can provide!

I believe you need the 1.5 degree for the thinner iron on edge banding.  If you started doing thicker hardwood (1/2" or so), then you would want the 0 degree.  The 1.5 degree cleans up iron on with a nicer profile.  If you that base on thicker hardwood, that 1.5 degree slant really shows up and looks bad.  There are a few cheaper bits the the regular Festool 491666 is a very useful bit for both bases but I think you can only do 5/8" max on edging thickness.

This should help.  I will say for trimming thin pvc banding I perfer the single edge razor style trimmers. like this

There are Festool bits that are intended to cut edgebanding in the vertical mode, but it is definitely not my preferred method. I would use the 1.5 degree horizontal base for the thin PVC. I use what is generally referred to as hinge mortising bits to do this, because you can get bigger diameter cutters while still having a short enough cut length to fit in that fairly small space.
As Rick said, for thicker edges, the zero degree base is better. You can get by with the angled base on thin hardwood edges (1/4" or so) as long as the edges don't meet, like a cabinet carcass. When the top/bottom of a cabinet meet the sides, there would be a gap in that corner. However, if it was an open unit, like a bookshelf, you could hold the shelves back from the front edge and it wouldn't be seen.
Once you get thicker than 1/4", you need the zero degree for sure.
As a side note, you can cut much thicker edges with this machine, but it takes some modifying, which some people just won't do to a tool which has this kind of a price tag. Mine will take a full 1" cut length, but I use it in a commercial capacity, so it's a bit different.
