MFK 700 EQ/B Plus Question

I'm trying to figure out the difference between the base plates of the two MFK 700 versions offered and was hoping for some help. Can you remove the off-set located on the bottom of the MFK 700 EQ/B Plus (#574456) base plate to make it flat like the base that comes with the MFK 700 EQ Set (#574368)? In photos it looks like there are four screws holding this off-set in place (see attached). Are there any other differences between the bases between the two options offered by Festool? The downloadable manual and Festool website are not very clear if they are the same base plates. Some images for the MFK 700 EQ/B on the Festool USA website would lead you to believe that the base plate is the same and flat (see attached).

I would buy the Set version, but don't need the 1.5-degree horizontal unit. Instead I need the 0-degree unit and figured I could buy the EQ-B Plus and then add the 0-degree horizontal unit as an accessory to save a few bucks.

Hope this makes sense. Any help or clarification would be appreciated. Thanks!

Someone can correct me if I have any of this wrong:

They both come with the same offset vertical base.

The “B” version comes with a ball bearing brake designed for use in trimming PVC edge banding.

The set doesn’t have the bearing brake, but it does have a horizontal base that’s not truly horizontal. It’s 1.5 degrees, and it’s primary use would be for trimming iron-on (or other very narrow) edge banding.

There is also a 0 degree horizontal base that doesn’t come with either set (for trimming hardwood edge banding that’s thick enough to look weird if trimmed at 1.5 degrees).

The MFK is super versatile, but interestingly, the items that differentiate the two versions (1.5 base vs. bearing brake) have pretty narrow applications.

Yes, just confirmed the part numbers on festool the vertical base is the same.  The b is made to use the intech style bits for trimming and round over of edgebanding in one step.

There is actually only one screw holding the motor to the base and it does not even have to be removed, just loosened.

He was referring to the 4 screws that hold on the additional spacer on the EQ/B unit.  This spacer raises the base off of the surface to clear the edge banding that is typically sticking up after ironing on or using the conturo.  The "base" itself is attached to the motor as you say.  But the spacer then attaches to the base.  It looks like about $50 bucks worth of parts to switch the regular vertical base over to the EQ/B type base.  which would include the spacer, 4 screws, and the bearing brake assembly.

Does anyone have a parts list for those parts?
I can see myself using both types of edge banding.

Thanks for all the help! I guess my assumption was correct and the offset plate (#10010205 Sideway Lining) is removable and you are able to have the same baseplate that comes with the Set. I just placed an order for the EQ-B Plus. Thanks again and your time and assistance is greatly appreciated.

I have the EQ/B and here are the differences compared to the standard base:

Yes, you can remove the extra pad with the 4 screws but the interface pad underneath is very thin and not flush with base of the router.  It is much thicker on the standard base. You would need to order part 471743.

Also, you do not get the 2 rotary knobs for attaching the parallel guides (the holes are there), or the underneath dust extraction attachment. These could be ordered as parts.  One other thing, my EQ/B base doesn't have a threaded core for attaching template bushings.  Although on EKAT these are listed as the same part number so I'm not sure why.

If you are simply using the EQ/B for edge treatments such as small round overs then I just use it as configured without removing the standoff pad.  I didn't need the parallel system as I use a small Dewalt plunge router for grooving and for template work.  I have bought the 1.5 and 0 degree flat tables for thicker solid edgebanding on wood.  It's my dedicated router for edging stuff.

Sorry to dredge up an old thread....

Is it not possible to buy an entire EQ/B base assembly? I'd like to add to my (old) set and have an upcoming use case for the thicker edge banding.

Don't see anything like that on Festoolusa.
