MFK 700 Question...

Am I to understand that this mini router is to be used primarily as an edge trimmer?  I mean, you can't really use it very well as a general purpose mini router, like a Bosch Colt or the like?

That is correct.  It does what it does very well, but it's scope of work is very narrow.

You can use it the same way you would use a Colt. Install the horizontal base on the route motor where the dust boot goes. I looked, don't have any videos of it in this configuration.

It's a shame there isn't some kind of plug base or even a adjustable height base, that allows you to be able to see the surface you're routing.  This little router could be very versatile.

I use it a LOT for edge chamfering and radiusing, especially on parts I've cut out on the CNC, and the underside can't be chamfered by the CNC.

I also use it in my end graft jig/template used for inlaying the "wedge" into the end of a guitar body.

these are special use cases, but the point is it's a great small and lightweight router easy to control for things like that.

I really fail to see the benefit of and obsession with seeing the surface you are routing or the cutting when with a little thought you can leave all safety guards in place. I've been doing it this way for the last 50 or so years with no problems.

FWIW I have a trim router that has a transparent base and you don't really get a good view of the bit, height control is terrible and dust collection is nonexistent.

For instance...recently I was trying to use the router to cut mortises for hinges.  Yes, I could have used chisels, but I thought I'd try using the MFK 700 for the job to make it quick and easy.  I cut close to the lines with the router, then just clean up with chisels.  Thing is, with the MFK, you can't see the lines. If the bit area of the router were open and visible, this would have been possible.
