MFK 700 question

Hello all. Question about the MFK 700 and 1.5 base. I planned on using it to trim the hardwood edging I glue to plywood panels before applying shop cut veneer. I do this on all cabinet boxes, doors, and shelves.

I thought I understood the base concept and the 1.5 degree bevel but after reading more posts maybe I do not. So will this 1.5 degrees be an issue when gluing veneer on top and require me to get the 0 degree base? Sorry for being thick about this, I suppose I could wait and try the base that comes with it but I know you guys have the answer.

I don’t think I understand.  So the hardwood banding goes on first, then you trim it flush with the face of the ply (can’t use a 1.5 base here), then you apply the veneer over the ply and the banding?  Then you need to trim the excess veneer?

If you edgeband on already veneered boards: 1.5 degree base prevents damage to the veneer.

If you want to veneer after edge banding: 0 degree base gives you a flush cut to veneer over.

If the edging/nose is more than a 1/2" wide the 1.5° bevel is noticeable from a side profile.

The veneer covers the edging and cannot go the other way for these visible panels. I will order the 90 degree base.

Okay, so the 90 degree base has you covered for trimming the edge banding.  For trimming the veneer, you will probably better off using the vertical base and bearing.  The horizontal 1.5 base could be used but then you would have to veneer and trim one side at a time and you would need to clamp a parallel reference face so you have enough registration for that router base or you’ll tip it.

Thanks for that info, I see how that would work. I would not use it for the veneer, only the edge banding. All the panels are always made a few millimeters large and trimmed.
