just got a mfk 700 set, I'm wondering if there is an additional part I can purchase to allow me to connect an extractor when using it in the vertical position with the 1.5 degree base?
unless I am being daft it seams there is no way to do this!!!

Can anybody shed some light for me?

Cheers

That's an easy one.  Check the attached photo.  Just be sure to open the sliding window under the black pickup hood before locking it down.

There is no proper way to attach the dust shroud to the 1.5 base in the vertical position. Pretty sure that it was not designed to be used in that position (although , maybe?) even though the router fits.  I am curious as to the application?

Sparktician, Thanks for the pic but that is defo horizontal and I have the bits to do that in the box.

Seth,
I wanted to use the machine to trim off iron on edging with a bearing guided radius trimmer, using the bearing on the cutter instead of setting up the bearing guide on the machine in the horizontal position.
the shape of the base allows you to pass over the oversized edge of the veneer.

we are not talking about a lot of waste or dust but I have become very much accustom to working in a near surgical environment.

Cheers

The base shown is the 1.5° base that you mentioned in your original post.  It is intended for horizontal use, although the router will fit it vertically.  If you want to rout vertically, just use the standard vertical base which has a dust port as in the image below.  If there's some specific reason you want to use the router vertically in the 1.5° base, maybe you could clarify your thinking.  Using it horizontally in the 1.5° base allows you to trim off the iron-on edging neatly without needing a pilot bearing.

I have been using the machine in the 1.5 base for the last few days trimming off edging on some shaped pieces which have tight concave and convex curves using the bearing guide and I am more than happy with the results, the machine is very easy to use and set up which really is to the fraction of a mm.

You need a flip down bearing from an OFK 700.will try to find parts diagram for you.

The dust pickup shown in the video appears to be yet another NAINA goodie.  Given that, I'd still prefer to use the vertical base with the appropriate bit and get the use of good dust extraction with what's available in NA.

Hi guys,

Thanks for your replies,
that is just what I need, the video sums up what im am trying to achieve - 3mm edging on curves trimmed back with a radius, so the flip down guide would be perfect

so, Im still unsure is the MFK and OFK the same machine just different attachments in the sets?
are all the OFK/MFK parts interchangeable?

also just noticing that that if you want a machine with B (brake) you have to purchase it as a non set item, this seems to be the case with a few items in the festool range.  A bit of a disappointment if you like to have all the features (most of us here!)

Hi,

Flip down parts are interchangeable, as I have bought MFK 700 set and OFK Flip down parts. I can't remember the cost of all bits but it wasn't that much in comparison to buying an OFK 700 machine set. I'm sure you can get hold of these through festool UK.

I've posted diagram above for your information.

Best regards

EV
