mfk pin protrusion question

hi,
i have a question on how the recess of the mfk router pin should be aligned to the knob (of the base) that tightens into it.

In my case base gets slightly out of alignment when i tighten the knob.

when i look through the hole with the knob removed (see 1st picture) i can see that the recess of the pin is not centered in the hole, causing the knob to contact the recess at just one point (the wear spot circled in the 2nd picture.)

is there an issue with how far the pin should protruding? do others have this issue?

thanks in advance.

Is the machine  new? i dont have any issues with the fit of the mfk bases I will try and dig mine out later and have a look.

It is that way by design. By hitting on one angle the screw forces the base tight against the router. It acts in the same way one would use an offset hole to drawbore a tenon.

Yes a recent purchase.

Ok I see. Does it cause the base to slightly rack? It is more pronounced with the vertical base I think. Thanks.

It won't cause it to rack, it will just pull the surfaces tight together. I would put it this way: You are the first person I recall that has even mentioned it, and the guys on this forum notice EVERYTHING. I knew from day one how it worked because it is the same method several European based companies use to manufacture modular tooling with the intent to pull components together for use in Machining Centers. By pulling the surfaces together it makes the motor housing and the based monolithic in performance which is just what you want.
