MFT/3 home made extension - I know I've seen it somewhere

But darn if I can find it. I just want to have an extension I can use when cross cutting longer pieces. Preferably something portable.

Any ideas?

8020 or a similar extrusion can be mounted a number of ways to give you extensions. I recently made up a batch from 1-1/2" profiles with 1/2" MDF 2" wide on 2 sides, one edge is flush and the other edge proud by 1/2" so I can cut on them.

I use a bench dog with a carriage bolt and knob to attache them from underneath the MFT. This allows you to cantilever them pretty far and still ahve the entire top open to clamp to. The top t-slot fits the Festool clamps. Here are a few photos:

You can also rig them up without the MDF and keep the top flush to the MFT top and just extend them out from the side rail, using another chuck as a leg. The great thing about this stuff is you can bolt it together, take it apart & reuse it over in many different configurations.

Included in this link are a couple of different ideas I use.  Not elegant I admit, but they work.  http://festoolownersgroup.com/festool-jigs-tool-enhancements/did-you-get-a-mft3-or-a-dust-deputy-for-christmas/

Thanks Peter, that's what I was looking for - how is the other end supported ? - looks like a generic feed stand of some sort.

Would this work attached directly to the Kapex somehow as well? Mind you as your suggestion I could just drop Systainer 1's on it.

1/2 inch ply for the surface?

Chris,

In the various models of these cheap extensions I have various supports.  In the one (with the Kreg plate) I have an extension outfeed stand.  For the other side I just mounted one plywood leg with a T at the bottom.  My home built router table has one plywood leg on it also.  I just built a 4 foot one to attach to the Kapex when it is sitting on top of my MFT/3.  I have not installed clamps on any of the others at this point and find that for me they are secure enough.  The router table will eventually have something done to the undersides for dust and chip collection / control.

Hope that this helps.

Peter
