MFT/3 question

And I thought you learned a new trick after playing with your angles lately.  [big grin]

im sure one of ye smart fellows could work out all the angle combos and make a spacer ring (to fit over dog pin) that make it to 22.5 degrees etc angles.

Somewhere I have a file that I played with (I need a life) a long time trying to find MFT hole combos with "usable" angles with QWAS dogs (Steve probably remembers)  --  as I recall 90 and 45 were the total.  All of the others presented odd angles including decimal degrees.

I am sorry for jumping off topic here but I saw your Dogue (avatar).  He/she is a good looking dog.  I have two of them and they are the best dogs.  My avatar is my boy and he is by far my favorite.
Is that a dogue de bordeaux?

Is this the one? It's a nice chart, very similar to one I made for my own use.

Peter, I thought the same thing but it's not quite there, it's 26.57 degrees. I spent a whole afternoon once studying an online trig calculator and plugging in all the numbers. Also 2 over and 1 down is not 30/60 degrees but 26.57/63.43 degrees.

Hi Alan.  [smile] I've been looking into some spacers that fit on the dogs. I looked at some for alignment (like Paul-Marcel does with wood parts) but it would be too expensive to make and ship. I was looking at a octagon piece that could cover 8 different lengths. But if someone uses the wrong set of holes, then me and my product will get blamed. Just not worth it.  [sad] And I would be expected to come up with a chart of all possible angles with each of the 8 sides. Instead I came up with a "Tan Bar" (similar to a sine bar) but it went over like a lead ballon.  [sad] You can search the TalkFestool forum for "Tan Bar" to learn more about it.

Steve,

There are differences in Forums.  I don't remember the Tan Bar mentioned here.  Curious minds here might want to know.

Just a suggestion.

Peter

Mastercabman-yes she is a dogue de Bordeaux.  Not the best photo, she doesn't like the camera or her empty feeding dish.  She has her quirks, but wouldn't trade her in for anything. I also have a chocolate lab and a beagle.

Thanks for the responses, I really need to give some thought to qwas dogs.  Seem to really add to the MFT.  Probably not until I go buy my domino and domiplate.  Priorities!

Yes, except I also did the alternate "top" and "bottom" tangents of each Qwas dog position.

Wooden Skye,
Sorry to get your thread so far off topic.  [embarassed] The simple answer is after you've made about 10 cuts on your MFT, you won't even think about the depth. Just set it deep enough to go through the workpiece and add an extra "click" (1 mm).  [smile]

Thanks for the idea Peter. I have posted a new thread on the Tan Bar and it can be found here:

It would be nice if there was a liberry/ repository sub forum to store stuff like this

I don't mind going off track, you never know where you will pick up some new intel.  I have a question about the rail dogs.  Can they be used in miter track to secure a jig to the MFT?  I was thinking about adding miter track to the bottom of my kreg jig workstation and then securing to MFT, first I was going to add a 1/4 x 20 bolt through a piece of ply and going to the side groove of the MFT but if I the rail dogs work, I like the this idea better?

Most true miter tracks are too wide, 3/4". However, it will work with normal jig tracks such as Incra T-Track, Rockler, Woodcraft, etc.  If the track has the same width as the groove in the guide rail, it will work. Generally, if the tracks say they work with 5/16" openings or 5/16" jig hardware, they will work.  [smile]
