The other thread about the MDF top made me think about replacement tops for my MFT/3.

Other then using the holes to clamp items to the table, is there a reason for the holes?  Is there a reason the spacing of the holes are where they are?

I realized I only use the holes to clamp things and I also only use a certain area of holes for that.

I was going to make a new top, but I thought that I might be missing something and thought I should ask here. If there is no reason other then clamping, I will have minimal holes and make a few replacements.

My current MFT top has 5 holes in it.  I bored the holes for the fence to mount through and a couple for clamping.  I did recently buy a router bit to cut the remaining pattern but have not yet spent the time to get it done.  We do have a large project going now and I will need to use the table for clamping so I predict that I will be knocking hole very soon.

Chris, do you have the older MFT?  My MFT/3 fence has no reason to mount it to holes that I can see.

Alan, I know about the Qwas dogs, but I do not see a need for them in what I do.

Yes, I have the old style.  I extended it for use on site to break down cabinet parts.  I also cut it for a drop in router lift for site work as well.  However, today I used it as saw horses to cut up a stack of plywood.
