All,

I'm a hobby woodworker from the Netherlands and have been reading the forum on a regular basis for the last two years. Never actually took the time to register but just did now.

Yesterday I bought an MFT/3 repacement top. Didn't really need it and already have the MFT/3, but got it for less than half of retail price so had to buy it.
Any cool ideas what to do with it instead of keeping it as a spare top?

I'd keep it as a routing template for making a spare top, and for making bases for jigs that locate to the MFT.  For example, my Kreg Pocket Hole Jig is on a base of ply, but I've fitted four stubby 20mm dowels to the underside so that it clicks into place on the MFT and won't slide about, without having to clamp it.

Most of the suggestions are going to be about making it into a useful bunch extension or handing it over for free!

I'm the sort of guy that wants one of every colour and every size, then spares for anything that could wear out - so I'm probably not the best to answer this query  [embarassed]

Give us a clue about how you use your current MFT/3 and it could adds some creative fuel.

(I'd be searching for a trashed MFT/3 for sale that needs a new top)

Now that's a good idea for the kreg jig, mine is on a chunk of ply at the moment, but won't be by the end of the day, thanks for the tip.

Keep it till you cut your top in half like I did recently.
Then you can replace your old top with the nice new top because the old one reminds you every time you look at it that you're an idiot.

Cut a square in your old top and use it as a router table on the mft.

What did you use for dowels to hook the Kreg to the MFT?

Axminster (an excellent UK tool company) sell dowels in different diameters, including 20mm.  I just used the MFT top as a template to rout holes in the ply, then stuck the dowels in.  Works a treat :-)

I just put a couple of threaded inserts in the bottom of the ply / kreg jig and use a couple of knobs to hold it firm on the mft.
