MFT Cart Systainer Drawer Slides Length?

Sooooo where to I start. I build a MFT cart for my MFT3. Made 3 sections: 2 sections at 425 mm width (400mm systainer tray and 25mm for side mounted drawer slides) and the far right at 325mm for my CT-MIDI. Bought 12 inch drawer slides as that is just over the 300mm systainer tray depth. I was alllllllll happy and installed all the trays with correct spacing and systainers fit in and pull out perfectly. The problem is 12 inch drawer slides does NOT account for the systainer top lid height when opening. I wanted to pull the tray out and open the systainer without taking it out. Then arghhhhhhh all the planning and measuring and cutting didnt account for the lid thickness. I measured the the lid being 1.25 inches in height and i wanted to add a 3/4” thick hardwood front so would 2” longer drawer slides ( 14”) work when i pull the tray out and open the lid fully?

Would 14’ drawer slides work?

I almost ran into the same thing. I replied in my MFT thread too but ya, I used 14”. They work but not much wiggle room!

Yes, 14" works, but the lids stand almost straight up (just slightly past). If you want some "wiggle room" might go to 16".

Definitely go with 16" full extension. I finally built cabinets for mine a couple of months ago after piling them haphazardly on the floor for 12 years. :) I used Knape and Vogt GS4270 16" slides from Woodworker Express. With the drawer fully extended the Systainer opens beyond vertical and stays open. I have all sys types and they all open like this.

I used 20" on mine. This leaves space behind the Systainers to store other items. I keep things that go with the tool in front. I have boxes of sandpaper behind the sanders, a ziplock bag of 6mm Dominos behind it, the angle plate for the OF1010, etc. All it takes is a small piece of trim to keep the Systainer in place and a back panel to keep things from falling off the back.

Just build an open tray (eg a drawer) for that top spot. Extremely useful, IMO.

I went the same way as r@ceguy and never regretted it...always good to have a stash space for extra things

You can probably save the work you've done... search for over-travel slides. They give about an inch longer travel than the listed length and should get you close enough to be able to open the lid.

missed the last line... if you are adding a front you will definitely need at least 14.

I used 14" slides and the worked fine. Wanted to conserve as much space as possible and 14" drawer is the bare minimum for a single systainer. I used it here SYSPORT MFT w/ VACUUM and it worked fine.
