MFT or CMS On Casters?

Ron, you're no help  !  [laughing]

Hey I answered your question :>D

What I think people do who want their MFTs mobile is build the mobile sysports and set a folded MFT on top of it or buil their own version of a MFT..

There are plenty of examples though out the site of peoples ideas.

Now for the CMS, Im sure you could adapt one of their ideas to set the CMS on.

For me no I havent build either of those because I like having the option to fold them up ad get them out of the way.

Especially since I will be moving to a smaller shop soon.

I will be putting my MFT/3 on casters without building a cabinet underneath.  If that works I will probably also do my CMS the same way.

One thing to keep in mind is that it will change the overall height of the mft unless you make your own cabinet and mount the mft folded at the same height.  Again, may not be an issue, but if you use other things like the ug stands or the Kapex mft then it will not match or you would need to add casters to it too.  I have thought about making my own sy sport cabinet with mft on top on casters and there are lots of examples on FOG of members who have done just that.

Peter - I would be interested to see how you do that and what you used, when you do it. THANKS!

Rather rough and ready, but it works brilliantly.

I put mine on a sled after the first week of owning it. I made a two by four frame and then captured a piece of three quarter inch plywood into the two by four frame using dados for strength. The plywood makes a generous shelf to place things like systainers or other storage solutions underneath the MFT. I used three inch locking casters for stability whilst routing or using the track saw. I am very happy with my sled and it was easily made in an afternoon. As stated above more elaborate and yes quite beautiful sys ports have been made by fellow FOGGERS but for my humble needs the sled is just fine. Put it on casters, if you decide you do not like it then use the casters for something else!

one thing i like about that sled is that the mft can be folded up and all your left with is a thin sled to store. the full scale sysport mft setups are great but take up a lot of room

+1

It's often assumed that using castors sacrifices portability or pack-away-ability.
Doesn't have to be.

Really surprised we haven't seen a few castors attached to the legs with "L" brackets and a couple of "U" bolts yet [smile]

... done that way the height difference could be absolutely minimal - not sure about stability though.

My approach is going to be to try and utilize the height off the floor of the braces between the legs as a place to mount the castors of a sled with a shelf.

I don't disagree, but would point out that the SysPort provides storage for items that would have to be stored somewhere else, were it not there.  I certainly don't think I would ever want to roll my SysPort to a job site.  I'd have to unload it and turn it on its side onto a dolly just to get it out the 30" back door of the shop.

To take full advantage of the "system", it would be nice to deploy the casters for portability but have the table sitting on its own legs when in use. that way the tabletop would be at 900 mm like everything else.

One of the main reason I like the sled and castors is that it raises the height.
Normal table height is too low.

Yeah, the 1080's & 800's were lower. Yours looks like a 1080?
Yup. 1080.
Keep looking at the MFT/3 ... but haven't seen anything sufficiently useful for me to trade up.
Considering it will cost me a lot of money to trade up.
