Just found this clever way to make new mft tops. Very clever young lad. Don't know if anyone has posted it already or not

DIY MFT Table Top with LR32:

That is a great video. Are there any videos out there that show how to drill the MFT top using the LR32 and the Festool parallel guides?

Keith

This is fantastic.  No need for the CNC shop then when I convert my workbench into an MFT style operation.

Well that's one way to have me to sign up on the FOG: beat me at posting my own video over here [smile]

Guess it's time to overcome my online forum-shyness.

Keith,
The LR32 + parallel guides method is a neat idea! My only concern with that setup is that cumulative error might make it tough to maintain the precision alignment. It'd still be an interesting experiment to try!

Yes Kriss,

Welcome to the FOG.

Now batch out about one hundred at a time.  [big grin]  People are waiting [tongue]

Does anyone know who that you man in the video is? He is a talented person and could become a great woodworker and video maker. Is he Canadian or US Northern East Coast?

Why not just ask him?

What a great idea, and great video. Thanks Kriss and Chris!

My current plan is to build a workbench made for hand tools, and use a Paulk-style "mft" bench on top for Festool work. This method has just shot to #1 for making the mft part! However, does anyone have any suggestions for how to go about making the top using the LR32 system (which I now have an excuse for buying) but without an mft? Obviously the main thing missing from this equation is a means of squaring the guide rail when routing the 20mm holes.

Ps how does one so young afford such lovely toys?

Okay - I have now seen him up above - doh !  [embarassed]

Well done Kriss and a very warm welcome from me.

Hi Kriss,

Which router cutter did you use in the video?

Did you notice any drop off in performance of the cutter as you went along?

In your view, how many tops would one cutter manage before needing sharpening?

Peter

Hi Peter,

It's the OF 1010 router with Festool's 20mm hinge boring bit.

I know where you're coming from, and I had same concern about longevity of the bit. But, there was absolutely no issue with the cutter. Last plunge was just like the first.

Taking it slow and making sure to let the router do the work, I'd go as far to say the bit could very well manage 50+ MFT tops before needing attention. MDF is like butter to cut through.

Maybe someone in the kitchen cabinets industry can chime in and let us know what life they get with their 35mm/20mm hinge boring bits in that application.

Kriss,  great video. I have to ask what everyone else is thinking.  What is your background, I see you have a nice assortment of festool.  How did you get into the trade.  I will be using your technique very soon on a mobile wood shop I'm building.

Everyone needs to go to kriss's you tube videos. This guy is very impressive. He is an inventor.  Great work.  I'm so jealous of your brain.
