I am gonna be cutting a bunch of cabinet carcasses, drawer bottoms/sides, cabinet door panels etc in the near future.  How big of a panel can I cut on a stock mft/3?  Been thinking about getting one in order to free up my build table which I also use to break down panel stuff.  Really sucks when I need to break down sheet of ply and my build table is in use.

non metric measurements if possible  [big grin]

With the guide rail in its factory position, and assuming the fence is in the flat, horizontal position: 27" x 43".  That's to the end of the fence. Technically, you could do something more than 43" if you don't need to use the flag stop and you have something supporting the material off the edge of the MFT/3.

thanks, I think that will be more than enough for what I plan to do.

Is the 27" limitation based on the guide rail that comes with it? I have a longer one that I got with the ts55, can that be substiuted in in case I want to go larger than 27"?

The guide rail rests on a bracket on the front side of the MFT/3. That would prohibit materials greater than 27" (or a little more than that) in width even if you attached a longer rail.

Oops, edit: unless you turned the whole fence and guide rail assembly 90 degrees.  Then your capacity would be larger.

You could put your longer rail on the rear bracket on the MFT, move the front bracket out of the way, and assuming the front end of the rail and the material is supported level with the MFT, you could cut longer pieces. The last part of the cut would end at the fence on the MFT if that makes sense.

Hi

I have just ordered MFT for similar reasons you mention.  When researching I saw pictures of multiple MFTs joined together using what looked like a long rail.  Maybe this would work?

Once I've got my single MFT set up and running I intend to make a simple MDF extension table to help support longer runs when cross cutting (imagine wardrobe sides 6+ft long etc).  Hopefully this will prove a useful addition to my tool kit.

In terms of ripping longer stock I can't really think of any way other than joining two mfts?  I'm sure someone on here will come up with the goods.

You could use the new Kapex extensions though the fence might get in the way. We don't have them here so I'm not sure.
