Some time ago I read that MHG has a new line of chisel with the side bevels ground down to a tiny flat. I took a look on their website and I saw they also have a line of butt chisels with the same grind. They're also rather cheap at €17.90 for the 40mm chisel. I decided to order it and last Wednesday I received it. I've used it a couple of times now on Oak and Cherry and the edge holds up much better than I expected. The blade is made from a high carbon Chrome Vanadium steel hardened to RC61 that's easy to sharpen and it takes a wicked sharp edge. The side bevels allow you to get into tight corners and being a butt chisel it offers great control. As you can see in the pic of the back there's still a hollow near the neck of the blade but I don't consider that a negative and a hollow is always better than a convex back. Lastly, the handle is made from Ash that's been oiled and it's very comfortable. All in all this is a very good chisel and I will be ordering several more.

Thanks for the review.  I recall these were mentioned in another of your posts and looked rather interesting.  Wonder if these are available in the U.S. or if I need to order them from an international seller.

[member=60576]Lemwise[/member] Do you have an opinion on the Robert Sorby #570 Sheaf River Butt Chisels?  One of my local tool retailers has these for $125 USD per 4-piece set; which is approximately €116 by current exchange rates.

I can also only attest the best for those MHG chisels.
I really like them in size/weight/performance.

I got one alongside one of the short Narex. The Narex is even shorter, which makes it great for some special tasks, but for most of the work, I think the MHG is the better tool.
