Middle of winter right now in Oz

Here I am in Sydney, sitting outside in a short sleeved T-shirt on an unusually balmy night !!

Very surprising when you consider we've just had some really good snow falls in our ski areas too.

Middle of summer here in the northern hemisphere (states the obvious) and here in the UK we're all (in colloquial terms) sweating our tits off because it was around 30 degrees C today and set to be about 33 tomorrow. Though I bet you Aussies scoff at that as a noteworthy temperature!! [wink]

It hasn't snowed in Adelaide metro in 40 years,  what passed as snow in the Adelaide hills and not the metro area last week, would be considered in Europe or NA as a small shower of hail or sleet. Just the weather forecasters trying to make it more interesting than it was I'm afraid.

It's been raining here nearly constantly for four weeks, records are being broken. The mower has been bogged to often to mention and the mower shed extension is a forlorn and lonely building site. It's also damb cold. First winter ever I have constantly warn a beanie.  I am so over this winter as I enjoy working outside.

Still the Untidy Shop is warm, and some projects are getting done. Also I have plenty of work at the big green shed this month as lots of team members have headed north for winter.

From looking at your table it seams, as [size=14pt]expected for Sydney, that you get big dumps such as on the 4th, 5th and 6th, rather than, as we down south have received, a fairly constant light 'nuisance'  fall with at times heavy short bursts.[/size]

92ºF yesterday.  I went to work early to be finished (pruning and clearing vines from fence & trees) work by noon time. 
Today, I will go out for an hour or so that I don't have to work so long in the heat forecast ahead for the coming week.
Once thru this heat spell should be the end of 90º days for this season.  Up-state (Connecticut) I understand a day or two of 100º.  Our daughter called yesterday with report of 100º in Washington, DC.  I don't much care for over 80ºF days with high humidity.  I do like spring and fall weather.

I have used an answer to people who like to draf their feet for paying snow plowing bills.  Some don't get around to paying for previous winter's plowing and sanding until July, or later.  some wait until almost time to plow for next winter.  I often give benefit of doubt and continue for the next winter assuming the person has run into a hard time.  It happens to the best.

When it becomes a habit over course of many seasons, when I "accidentally" forget to plow the next season, and they call to ask if i am going to plow their driveway, my reply:

Oh no.  I didn't forget.  I just have instituted this terrific new deal, especially for you.  For those who like to pay for snow plowing in July, we will plow the driveways in July.  It is so much better for everybody.  I don't wear out my equipment, freeze my fingers when i have to get out of the truck to make a repair.  I don't need chains.  I don't even have to worry about sliding off of your driveway so I don't damage your lawn and, best of all, you don't have to receive so many bills from me.  We also have a great deal going for those who like to wait six months to pay for lawn mowing.  We will mow in January when we are not bothered by mosquitoes and we don't get sweat in our eyes.  We just have such great deals for you." 

Sometimes, they get angry and just hang up.  Some have actually suggested it sounds great, they laugh and ask that I continue with the promise to be more prompt with payments.

[size=13pt]Trouble is [member=550]Tinker[/member], our grass continues to grow in Winter, even when it rains, and unlike yours which is usually under snow. Our off time for mowing is November - Feb when it is hot and the ground is set rock hard!  [eek] [smile] Just a trim then, deck high and approx. once every month. Still, no snow plowing required.  [smile]

I take solitude in the fact that the 'professional' at the rural Restourant nearby gets his bogged too. By the way that restaurant was recently listed number 65 of the worlds top 100 Restaurants. Trouble is a meal there per person equals a C18 basic! So if you are ever this way, I will shout you a meal at the local pub.  [smile] [popcorn]

We had no snow locally but we had 60 inches of rain - 1500mm. We had plenty of snow in the Cascades, 40 feet fell mid mountain Mt. Bachelor ski resort this past winter.

It's been a wet-ish summer here. This morning it was in the 90s, I'm sweating my you-know-what off running the dozer. Then an hour later I jump on the roller and it's raining sideways.
