I used Midi as a household vacuum. It works well and does what a vacuum is supposed to do. I used it for this purpose on many occasions. It has three drawbacks, though. One, it is rather heavy. Household vacuums are not as solidly built and they in general weigh less, which makes it easier to carry them around. The second limitation is that even Midi is fairly large, compared to canister or even upright vacuums (I am talking mainly about length and width, not so much height). The third limitation, the black plastic extension tubes (pipes) which you get with a general cleaning kit, despite being very expensive for what they are, are made of a plastic which leaves black streaks if your touch a rough surface with them (e.g., walls). I believe all attachments (in their plastic versions) are the same. This is OK in a shop, not so good in the house.
One also should be aware that Midi has large wheels on the rear but small rollers on the front, which look more like carpet casters than hardwood casters. I do not bet on it, but it is my recollection. If you have hardwood, you might want to be careful with rolling it around to avoid scratches. I usually try to carry it when I need to move it.
The positive side is that it has a longer vacuum hose than any household vacuum. You do not need to move it around nearly as much. In most cases, you can"park" it in the middle of the room and from there you can reach almost anywhere.
The second positive side is that it is a certified HEPA vacuum. Not all household vacuums are HEPA because .... well .... HEPA filters are expensive and push the price of the unit upwards.
So the bottom line is, if you have one, of course you can use it for general house cleaning. Your wife might not like it too much because of its size and weight. It is not a perfect design for a household vacuum, but its suction is better than that of the most household vacuums and it cleans as well or better than most household vacuums.
