midi midi gone?

I'm not surprised they have been going down and down in price of late.
I just bought one at £249 with cleaning set, which is okay as long as I can get some dust bags for a few years.

Be a great shame if they don't keep some kind of compact vac in the line-up; plenty of jobs are space-constrained enough that dragging the bigger vacs along can be a real headache, for no real benefit. Time to introduce a CT16 perhaps??

There are no plans to discontinue the CT MINI or MIDI to the best of my knowledge.

Hi Shane,

1. Why were the CT Mini/Midi pulled from sale in Canada?
2. When will they be back for sale in Canada?
3. I have a Midi - what is the procedure for getting it CSA approved (as I was assured by my dealer in Canada when I bought them).
4. Why was I not contacted by Festool re: this?
5. Whats Festools official statement on this?

As I understand things my CT right now is not allowed on job sites by insurance w/o the CSA approval (what I understand is lacking) - likewise if there is a fire in some way related to the CT the lack of CSA approval could create issues w/ insurance claims

A few years ago a friend ordered a machine from Germany, the only company in the world that made this thing, for a university physics research lab. This was as cutting edge as it gets. The they were told they could not even plug it in without CSA approval. Long and short, when a check for the better part of $10K was handed over, the CSA approval sticker was handed over. They had no clue what this thing actually did, nor did they inspect it (not surprising considering they didn't understand the technology).

Then they could "legally" use it.

In the 90s the all knowing CSA "approved" radiant electric heaters that were to be installed behind drywall (ceiling and wall applications). In a short time they caused a number of fires in the Victoria region. Lawsuits ensued and CSA declined to be held responsible for for their approval. It was determined that the product was indeed flawed.

But don't get me started on my feelings about CSA...

Cheers,

Peter

ya, I get it - thing is CSA is tied to insurance, so.... professional power tools sold in Canada that void my insurance and no comments/proactive action from the manufactuerer  [eek]

Nanook,

Just curious - why you say that the Mini and Midi have been pulled from the Canadian market and that they are not CSA approved?

I was chatting with the guys at lee valley and they mentioned that they had had to pull the units from sale b/c of a CSA issue.

Hi -

We have been asked by Festool to stop offering the Midi and Mini, and are still awaiting some sort of formal statement. There has been no communication with our staff beyond advsing them that we can not sell the units we have.

Cheers -

Hi -

The best bet to find out what's going on is to ensure that your tools have been registered with Festool.

We will be contacting all Canadian customers that have purchased any currently affected products from us directly. Right now - there is the TS 55 REQ issue covered in the other thread.  We have also been asked to withdraw the Mini, Midi, and RAS 115.04 E sanders from sale, and are awaiting further instruction from Festool.

I really really wish I had more information - but that's it.

I spoke to someone at Atlas Tools in Toronto prior and he kinda informed me it was one of their customers that set the ball rolling with there being no CSA sticker anywhere on the unit from an electrician who was having to handle the unit that balked.  Don't know the exact circumstances more than that, but i do wonder what the actual situation was where someone would be looking for a CSA sticky.

I started a thread about this on another forum last week for those interested.....
