Just received my first Midi Systainer and 2 MFT Systainers yesterday.

Are many of you using the Midi Systainers?  What for?

Any of you using multiple Systainer MFT's?  If so, why and what for?

I had a specific thought in mind for mine but was interested to see what others are doing.

Peter

I have seven midis... I use them for non- Festool equipment.  I have my Milwaukee M12 tools in III (three drills, 4 batteries, and a grinder).  I have misc tools in a II (short crow bars, concrete chisels, lines etc).  I have a Milwaukee bandfile and bands in a II.  I keep a pair of grinders (one with diamond blade- one with a regular masonry blade) and the tray from the old Plano tool box with spare blades and accessory equipment in a III.  I just put my Milwaukee sawsall in a II and my Milwaukee mini band mill in a III.  I have two more on order...a III for my Bosch 6" sander and sanding sheets and another II for good luck.  Mine are Tanos that I bought form either Hartville, Amazon or Lee Valley.  I used to keep my Milwaukee M12 tools (drills, dremel type, reciprocating saw and  oscillating tool in a pair of Syst Is but recently bought a five drawer systainer from Lee Valley for these.  The tools and six batteries fir tin the large drawers and the small drawers keep all the accessories handy.  The Tanos systainer systems have made my van so much more organized...wish I had them 30 years ago.

So Peter, I am thinking the Sys-MFTs are for Kapex support with built in clamping?  And the Kapex accessories can travel in them?

The Midi Sys?  Hmmmmm....................................  [scratch chin]

I guess you know me too well as someone who wants to maximize all the parts I buy.  Yes, the Sys MFT's are designed to be used with my Kapex.  I will be doing images or a video hopefully this weekend  [eek].  I haven't done one in a while.  But in keeping with using parts in multiple ways the first Sys MFT is set up to also be used with the MFT/3 - especially in my situation.  My situation is different than others so I hope that this will give others ideas.

Here are some images of the contents of the first one.  Someone will probably notice that my Kaizen foam is not cut to fit the systainer perfectly.  That is by design.  I have been working towards cutting back on what I carry and want the most flexibility.  The rectangles are sized to fit easily into either classic or t-lox systainers and also maximize Kaizen foam usage.  Ultimately and hopefully it will be that I can pull Kaizen foam "trays" out and place in empty systainers on the Sys Roll to create job specific solutions while having fewer Systainers.  More on that later.

Peter    nice job, what a great setup, I am going to have to steal the thought for sure

Sal, please do.  BUT, remember not to put small parts in the top tray that can slide out the holes in the top.  [oops]

Peter, another well thought out solution. I see a potentially new accessory kit for Festool. [wink]

I've got currently only one midi and I've dumped all of my router accessories into it for now -> need to get organized with it. Will probably fit double amount of stuff in it if everything had a good place and was not in its own box (guidebushings in one box, routerbits in various boxes, Jessem guiderollers in their own box, the oddments of OF1400 and CMS-OF loose bit just thrown in, etc.)

I'm also planing on making a hand-plane storage box out of a midi once I have time to figure out if I can fit all of my planes in a single box. I currently have three in a normal sys-2, but they are too short to have a jack plane in any other orientation than cornerwise which makes for really bad space utilization.

A second set of stuff I'm going to organize in a midi is my sharpening stuff (if it all fits that is) - a worksharp 3000 with a bunch of plates, honing compounds, all the attachment accessories, Veritas honing guide with all accessories, three Eze-lap diamond plates, leather strop at least... If there is enough clearance for the WS3000 to stand up in there it could fit, but haven't tried it yet.

What would be nice is to have a midi with a row of sortainer drawers "under the bottom" i.e. like six narrow drawers or three wide ones for odds and ends with a SYS2 or 3 height compartment above it and a DF lid to top it all off [wink]

My SYS-MFT hosts about the same stuff you have, but just thrown in  [embarassed]

Peter,

Noticed you have a couple of Blokkz clamping aids...do you use those on the MFT?

Honestly I have only used them once to pull a railing system together for fastening.  I included them in the "tray" because I had the space and I tend to use the Festool clamps also away from the Festool MFT.

Peter

Are the foam units also sized to fit into a large  Sortainer drawer? That would give an additional handy swap out if a Sortainer was kept on the bottom of the Sys-Roll.

The first thing I did when I got my mft-sys was pop off the lid and put it on the sys2 I have been storing some clamps in. I figured it would be more useful on a taller systainer when using it on the floor and now matches the height of my sys-tb and sys2 w/ attic which I use daily. Im planning on getting a sys midi 2 with a red latch for my sawzall and maybe a sys midi 3 for my Makita lxt leaf blower and mini vac.

+1 on swapping an MFT Lid to a deeper systainer, it really opens up some possibilities. I've found that when sitting on my Sys-Roll, a great working height is a Sys 5 under that Sys2 with the MFT lid swapped over. The Sys-Roll takes up less space than my older MFT800, and is a lockable, stable working platform.  Didn't think I'd like it as much as I did while using this set-up in a tight working area recently.
[thumbs up]

Agree with everyone about the MFT top.  So useful!

I swapped mine onto a Sys5 in which I've built a custom hand tool insert.  I can pull the insert out and plop the Sys5 on top of a couple other Sys's and have a passable work platform.

Next time I need a SYS1 for anything, I'm getting the MFT version and moving it on to the Sys5 I keep my air compressor in.  Then, I can use them side-by-side for a larger work surface, or spread them apart sawhorse-style to support long workpieces.

The MFT top also makes the Sys5 a nice little step-stool in a pinch. [smile]

I also changed out my latch colors to reflect the tools within...Red for Milwaukee, blue for Makita and Bosch, orange for Fein, grey for PC and green for Hitachi.  Oh and I actually have 9 midis, I forgot that I keep my metal forming tools in one and the II I just bought for luck, now houses may PLS-5 and my Bosch GLL-3.

You put them under the table to hold the clamping elements in place.

Think you missed the wink at the end of the question there Tom...  [big grin]

Right you are, Garry...

Mine are in a clam shell package hanging in the far corner of the shop.
