Milwaukee 18V Packout Vacuum Festool Hack

Just a quick hack for all Milwaukee fans. There is a crazy deal at Home Depot right now- two high output 6.0 batteries, charger and the Fuel Packout vacuum for $300.

I have noticed that this new vacuum comes with a tool adapter for the hose, so I decided to try and see if it actually works on Festool stuff, or if I can put the Festool hose end instead.

Here is how the Milwaukee adapter fits on both types of Festool ports:

The fit on the sander is pretty snug, but since it’s a plastic part (compared to Festool’s rubber), it looks like it would fail after a while.

Fit on the TS55 is good, I would say usable, but not as snug. Maybe some tape around the adapter would make it fit even better.

And I was really hoping to be able to put the Festool adapter on the Milwaukee hose, but the threaded collar is little bit to small. The only to make it work is to use the adapter itself only, without the collar.

It’s a perfect fit, but it doesn’t rotate freely like on the Festool hose.

I’m remodeling my house and a lot of times my Festool vacuum is inside and I have to make a quick cut in the garage, but I hate lugging the vacuum around, so that’s a perfect solution for a quick cut or something without making a mess.

It also has two speeds, and it’s way more quiet than their last portable vacuum.

I hope somebody finds this helpful, or adapt it for Festool use.

I have the other M18 vacuum which has a narrow end on the hose, but this is good to know for future vacuum choices.

And while I am at it: Why must we struggle with so many slightly different sizes and shapes of vacuum hose fittings?  Are the makers and sellers of these so hard up for revenue that they can't entertain one or two systems that everyone can connect to?  I realize there is a bit of innovation with various fittings to make a partial "system" that works together nicely, but many (most?) of us have a combination of tools and brands and I find it quite irksome to try to find or make adapters including tape, etc. to make a connection between diverse vacuums, hoses and tools.

I just got the Makita 18V HEPA  vac. It’s listed as 76 db and is a lot noisier than the  CT-36. Convenient though!

I haven’t used it in real application yet, but from the initial testing it is way more quite than the previous generation 18V vacuum. Not as quite as a Festool vacuum, but most likely the tool that you use it with would be louder anyway.
