I love the freedom that my battery-powered drill affords me. However, when I am drilling pocket holes or dowels, I prefer my plug in drill.
My battery powered drill has a "no-load" RPM rating of 1,400 RPMs. Under load, it is probably closer to 1,100 or so.
My electric drill has a rating of 3,400 RPMs. If it slows while drilling wood, it is imperceptible. Multiple hole drilling is much faster with the higher RPMs, and the pocket holes are cleaner.
I do 90% of my pocket hole and dowel hole drilling at the bench, so there is little advantage to the portability of the battery powered drill.
Basically what I am saying is we all have corded drills somewhere. We should keep in mind that they are better suited for some operations than the battery powered versions.
