Is there a rear mounted power cord wrap available for the mini/midi extractors (like on the rear of the ct26)?

Is it just me, err...ah, nevermind, its just me.  :-\

Scott,

I have a Midi and I would wrap the cord up first and then the 27mm hose on top of the cord.  And stack my systainers on the Midi.

They will both fit in the hose garage on top of the Midi.  I would take a pic for you, but I now use my Midi only with my Kapex and a 36mm hose.

The 36mm hose will not fit in the hose garage.

Thanks, Eric. There seem to be pretty much two options for in the garage storage of both the hose and the cord. The one you describe, and the one I have been doing. I don't love either, so looking for a work around on that to maximize the garage space.

I just wanted to make sure I wasn't missing something. It seems counterintuitive that the larger model extractor (with larger garage) would have external cord storage. And boy does it make that ct26 garage pretty plush. I can stash all kinds of small tools inside the circumference of the wrapped hose inside. I feel a modification coming on.

Scott, bigger hose garage on the bigger units because people are more likely to use them with a 36mm hose, which is a snug fit. Suspect you're only use the 27mm with the sanders. If you have a cleaning kit, you could put the hose in the Systainer, the cord in the hose garage.

Thanks, Shane. Thats definitely an option. I am trying to reduce the onsite systainer stacks, though, by not carrying dedicated abrasive systainers (can carry a couple day variety pack in the sander systainer) on short term projects, etc. Just as an example, I only want to pack a abrasive systainer if two same sized sanders are heading out to the same job together. Another example is that we generally won't carry more plug its than extractors, unless of course we are running a splitter set up. We often have two extractors on a project, so they share a clean up kit, but each garage (in paint prep) needs to have one of those oval shaped swivel head brushes crammed into the garage, and a few other quick grab essentials. As the weather gets colder, that power cord gets more cantankerous to stow.

I generally don't like pulling the hose, although sticking a dust gate on the extractor exhaust port and racking the hose up on the wcr works quite well, but then...you know how it goes. And of course it gets compounded by how many guys are working together and sharing gear and stuff. If it was a simple matter of what to do with the hose and cord during transport from shop to jobsite, that would be no problem. Its everything in between where we all find individual organizational needs. The system lends itself well to organization, so its mostly a matter of keeping it simple enough that a crew can actually get on the same page and do it.

Just thinking out loud here. Thanks.

The hose garage on my Mini is OK and I do use it for both the cord and the hose, but it takes more time and care than I think it should to pack them both away.  I wish that Festool would support a retractable cord on their vacs.

That is where I am getting hung up with it. It does pack nice, but it is a bit of an exercise. Especially the way I do it. I wrap the power cord inside the circumference of the hose. And the power cord is temperature sensitive during loading. Its the friendliest cord on the team all summer. Come fall, it is somewhat special needs. Its pretty tight in there, just enough room to get your hand around the handle, but on the flip side I do not want to have to stomp on a systainer to get those things to lay down in the garage. The square inches of real estate that can be opened up by getting that cord out of there is appealing.

Retractable would be great, but there is no place for it to go. I definitely dont want to sacrifice internal capacity over it. The solution has to be external in my opinion.

When I first got My Midi, I used the same technique you described. It is a PITA. I now wrap the cable outside of the garage and place that loop over the center handle as one. The hose gets coiled On top of that. Much easier.

Scott, unlike you, I would be happy with a slightly bigger box if it had a retractable cord.

It's lightweight, just wrap it around the whole unit, under and between the wheels.  [scratch chin]

I know that Germany monitors and reads the forum, so they see these types of suggestions/recommendations.

Not sure when CT MINI 2.0 will be coming out, but it's possible some of these ideas will be incorporated.

Shane

PS - I personally don't like retractables, they always fail over time and leave a bit hanging out, which is annoying.

You could add a Systainer extension frame with a lid to make the garage taller, or a Sys with the bottom cut out.

Scott; I removed the cord wrap piece from my CT26.  If you think you can use it, you can have it for the postage from BC.

Frank; I, too, would like to see a retractable cord for the CTs.  Even nicer would be a retractable Plug-it cord...

The frame will fit on top of a hose garage, just need to cut two small tabs off the back corners of the frame.

To extend a hose garage with a frame and not have an open lid in the way......    cut the bottom out of a Sys -I (or whatever size does the job), put the Sys on the garage. Move the from the Sys to the  extension frame. That way the frame can be unclipped from the Systainer, removing the entire top/ cover.

A roll up device such as found on "Henry" vacs would really be nice but would most likely take up too much space.  One great thing about that system is that you can pull out only as much cord as you need.

I replaced my mini's cord with a much more flexible yellow cord that rolls up in a much tighter coil which fits neatly around the carry handle.

What I find is if the cord on the midi is cold it's a pain to get back into the garage. In that respect I think I would prefer something off the back like th CT26.
