Pecan wood going through the planer.
[attachimg=#]

Rabbeted the inside edge to accept the mirror using a stacked dado. Two dominos in each end and two pocket screws.

Using the festool planer I put a wave in the wood.

Another view of the wave going across the frame.

The pecan wood is really white.

First coat of stain.

In between coats of wax.

Final coat of wood wax.

I used the Festool undulating planer head in the HL850.

Looks nice.

Must be a new piece of foam, it's way to pristine.  ;D

Looks really nice!

So I have a question on the planer (one of the Few Festools I do not have, yet!)

Do you run it parallel with the sides (red line) or more at a 45 degree angle (blue line) to get the undulations the way you did? The line up very nicely!

For the mirror with the wave I ran it at a 45 degree angle.

Here are some other mirrors that I ran the planer over in a variety of directions.

Thanks! The Planer just moved to the top of my must have list! It certainly makes some cool effects in the wood.

Very cool!
I don't know if I like the frame on the first post(45*plane) but I really dig the others frame you did,  ;)

[thumbs up]  Nice job!

Thanks for sharing.  I need to make a couple frames for the wife.  I may need to check out the rustic heads for the HL850 now.

Eric

That looks really cool.  One of the reason I got the planer was to be able to make this type of texture.  Awesome!  What did you finish the piece with?  I like the color.

Scot

The stain on the frame with a wave pattern is Minwax Espresso 273.

The frame in the bathroom was a layered Minwax Dark Walnut and Valspar Ebony. The Valspar Ebony makes the Minwax Ebony look diluted.

All of the frames are waxed using Minwax Paste Finishing Wax and I used a rotary buffer with a wool bonnet to remove the wax.

Hey, thanks for sharing your work here.  I really like the different looks you got with the rustic head on the planer!  Will need to rob another convenience store soon.

You sanded after planing, right?  How'd you do it?

Awesome work!!  We Built a house a couple of yrs ago and the customers wanted a rustic touch.  We put some huge beams and posts in that had the same look.  Also did the stairway parts with the wavy head.

Looks Awesome !! Glad to see some more work with the planer and the rustic head

I've used it for several years on mantels and what you did really gives it the awesome look
Thanks for sharing
