Help!

I just bought a Makita LS1013FL 10" SCMS.  This replaced my old 12" Dewalt 708 that I had on a Dewalt  723 stand.  I got rid of this combo because it was loud, very little DC and just too big for my shop.  I have searched EXTENSIVELY for a new miter saw stand and have had no luck finding what I want.  I realize that I might have to just build my own, but I've got a number of pieces I need to get started on and have already spend a month doing shop projects.

What I'm looking for is something with a small footprint that ideally has wings with a fence that can be extended out as needed for longer stock.  Also some type of DC would be nice.  I was pretty settled on one of the Rousseau stands as well as their Downdrafter  DC hood.  However, I took a look at one yesterday, I didn't  like the working height (36").  It's also pricey.

I happened to stop at a few places that had good Festool setups and realized that the height of an MFT would be perfect.  An old MFT 800 would probably work, if I could find one -- but seems like overkill - especially if I still need to figure out extendable wings and DC.

Anyone found a solution for a similar situation w/o having to just build it?

Thanks

Carl

Carl,

I'm not sure if this is what you are after, but why not build your own?  I know that Norm Abram has a fantastic one that he built on the NYW.  I think the plans and maybe even a video are available on-line.  If not this one, why not search for one on-line that is conceptually what you want.  I assume that this will be for shop use only.

That way you can exactly the features and dimensions you are after.

From what I have seen, you are certainly capable of doing it.

Well, I use the stand from HD.  It works well, is very portable, has outrigger rollers and only cost about 99.00; on sale and I think it's on sale now.  When not in use, it's folded up, kinda, and sits in the corner, next to the Bosch 4009 TS, waiting for me to return.

If I were in the market for another stand of this type, I would get it again.

I agree with GreenGA, the Ryobi unit is a GREAT stand and for only $99. No DC but you don't need it with the kapex.

Hello,
I'll add my voice to those who like the Ryobi!  I bought it last summer when I needed to rebuild my front porch.  For $99, I was thinking it would be "good enough," but I was pleasantly surprised and impressed by its quality.
Thanks,
Matthew

I looked some more the past couple of days and I think one of the things I've realized is that I really like the saw being at a height 5 or so inches lower than what most of the stand are.  I have to admit the Ridgid one is kind of interesting (as is the Delta) and the Ryobi looks like it has a smaller footprint than my old Dewalt, but I think I'm only going to be happy with building my own...

So for now I'm just going to use a few sawhorses and a piece of plywood, but maybe in a few months I'll build a stand and enter it into a monthly contest!!!

On a somewhat related note, I love my new Makita saw, it's SO much quieter, more accurate and less messy than my old dewalt!

thanks guys!

just a little follow up -- I decided to try the Ryobi.  I got it yesterday and have to agree it's a great stand (esp. for $99).  Thanks for suggesting it!

OK, Carl.  So you took the easy way out.
