Funny you mention about the MFT3 I also have one and thought this could be used instead of a mitre saw. My only concern is how this method would be with small sections ie picture frames or beading. On the plus side I could spend the money on a TS75 instead

Mick .you could try a NOBEX for cutting small sections and beading
(Sorry don't know how to post a link )if you google it .they are really handy

And then you still get a mitre saw with an EX at the end lol

Links are easy. When you google something or are on a page that has a click-able link to more info etc. Instead of clicking on it, right click and choose - copy link location. ( in firefox, will be similar in other browsers )

Then in a reply -  right click and choose paste.

Before buying a power miter saw I would give serious thought to one of the other directions; either TS55/MFT or something like the NOBEX. If you lean toward doing hand tool work more, then start out with the NOBEX. It's certainly a lot cheaper and, although I don't own one, a friend used this type of solution for cutting a large number of angled pieces a couple of years ago. He was completely satisfied with the result and was glad he stuck with the hand tool solution.

I've used an 8 1/2" Hitachi slider since they first came on the market..great little saw.  I kept an aluminum blade in it as I cut a lot of aluminum and it worked great for wood or plastic also.  A couple of years ago I bought a 12" Makita Slider from Amazon because it was a great deal, $600.00 for $450.00.  It works great but creates clouds of dust.  I've modified the dust collection and it's better but untill I add separate collection on both sides of the saw I'll continue to wear my Trend Airshield, as my eyes have become sensitized to wood dust in my old age.  Too many years of sanding and cutting without Festool!!

Thanks all for your help. I shall leave it for now and use the TS55/MFT3. I have made 2 sleds for my table saw one cuts sq the other does mitres so that should do for now.

I finally got a Kapex, but before that I was seriously looking at the Bosch GCM12SD 12 in. Dual-Bevel Glide Miter Saw. Helluva saw.

Several places including Costco have it for $749 or less...

I just saw Home Depot was selling this Bosch miter saw for $649
