Mixing latex with poly

I have used this on cabinets and shelves,  where I want the grain show through.  I use a sanding seal first,  then two coats of paint and primer colour coat and lastly a couple coats of 50/50 paint poly mix.
I find it quite tough and it doesn't take longer that what I usually do with a painted work.
