Im due for upgrade in less than 2 weeks from now and was about ready to go for the Motorola Defy over the HTC Desire as most internet reviews say the battery life is rubbish on the HTC Desire. In tests the defy did seem to do better in some things compared to the Desire. Then I spotted that a HTC Desire S is coming out soon maybe April 18th in the UK. Anyone out there got the desire or defy wanna let me know what you think of them.

If I were you I'd wait it out a bit. I like the dust proof features of the Defy but it's running 2.1 Eclair and has a little less bollocks in the processor department. Dual core phones are set to release shortly and while smartphones are ridiculously powerful now for such a tiny device, they're about to get a whole lot crazier.

Yep I think youre right just have to be patient and not just dive in when my upgrade date comes up.

UPDATE

Well I waited in the end and got the HTC Desire S yesterday as a free upgrade from Vodafone also upped my internet to 1gb.

Is this thing fast wow, its my first Android ive always gone for Nokia's as they are good quality phones but they seem to have been left behind since all the android phones came along.

I just picked up a new phone... HTC Thunderbolt.  After being on a nexus one for almost a year and a half, I have to say that I can't stand thus HTC sense UI overlay nonsense.  The phone itself is nice and the LTE (4g) is faaaaast... About as fast as my home internet connection.  Battery looks to be the weak spot, but that doesn't matter too much to me, as its easy to charge in the car, and charges very fast from a wall outlet.  Sad to be changing from T-Mobile to Verizon, but I'm not going to get stuck with at&t again.

I've had the Desire for a while now and love it. As for battery life, I charge every night and it's always made it through the day with battery life to spare, and I use it it a fair bit.  Hope you enjoy yours!

The mobile providers are creating a monopoly!   [eek]  They're all terrible.  I have AT&T now with the iPhone, but had Verizon before that & discovered that I had to watch my billing VERY closely.  I had so many billing errors...and screamed at so many customer service reps (if you know me, I don't get heated easily).  Keep a close eye on your bill!

If Sense isn't to your liking you could try some of the custom launchers available on the market. I use launcher Pro Plus which is a paid app but there is a free version that has all the features minus the custom widgets. One of the best things about android to me is you can pretty much change any interface to your liking if you're not satisfied with what's stock on your device.

I absolutely will root this thing once I find the time...

Anyone know if Android has a built in internet 3G usage meter or do you have to get an app for that ? On my old Nokia you could see how much mobile internet you had used so you knew if you were near your monthly limit. I have 1gb a month now so should be hard to go over but I noticed this HTC is always updating Facebook, Weather app, news apps etc etc etc etc all day.

PS its running 2.3 3 gingerbread

My Samsung Captivate did not come with a 3G usage meter, but I downloaded an app called 3g Watcher which does the trick, and I am pretty sure it was free.  There is a Pro version for a few bucks.

I don't use Facebook, but I have a hard time imaging you could use 1GB/month on Facebook updates.

No need to root to run a custom Launcher FYI

I've got a 500mb plan and have yet to go over facebook updates and all

I downloaded the 3G watchdog app that does the trick shows exactly how much of your monthly 3G data you are using.
