I was taking the simple approach that the design was a Systainer rip-off. So the rear latch was just too make it look like a systainer.

Yeah, it's definitely a rip-off, with just a few details changed to avoid a patent breach.

we have had those fake systainers with the metal catches here in the uk for ages makita started doing their cheaper battery drills in them. I posted about them ages ago on here, they are hinged and the clips just hold the lid shut and dont lock to another case as the systainers do.
