My son finished his book case today. He did the adjustable shelves with the LR32 & 1400, Used the Domino to attach the top and bottom fixed shelves and the front toe kick trim piece.

Started with rough sawn popular. I ran the back slats, sides & shelves  through the table saw for him but he pretty much did the rest himself (with supervision).

His first sizable project. Not bad for a 9 year old. (spoken like a proud father  :))

OUTSTANDING!!!  This just tickles me!!!  Earlier this weekend with Warren's project with his son, and now ScottW....  Way to go!!!  Scott, please tell your boy it looks great for me!

Timmy

Very nicely done, Colin :D  You should be very proud of your son.

It's always good to see the passion for woodworking passed from generation to generation.  I grew up helping my father with custom cabinetry.  I think that's how I ended up with sawdust in my blood (obviously pre-Festool days).

Matthew, perhaps it is about time to put up a "Father and Son/Daughter" gallery for the FOG?

Perhaps...let me put my finger to the wind here and get a reading.  What do people think of this idea?
I might have something to add to such a gallery myself very soon.
Matthew

I think it is a great idea. Good thinking there Tim.  Maybe it could include grandfathers, uncles, or even mentors. It's a great way to keep the hobby alive.

Excellent job Colin. Many of us 'grown ups'  ;D have trouble getting our minds around the LR32 in action. Next we want to see a fully functional poplar XBOX 360 made from the left-overs.  ;D ;D

Put me down as a vote for a FOG section oshowing team efforts by family/fields/mentors.

I do recall a couple of ladies on here as well.  We all know how Politically Correct I am  ;D  Qwas brings up a great point with mentors/uncles/grandparents etc.  Perhaps "woodworking through the generations" gallery????

Colin, what a great job and for any age. ;) :D ;D I am afraid you already put me to shame but my daughter can kick your butt.  :D ;) :o ::) ;) Fred

Great job Colin!!!

Also great to see the younger generation being taught woodworking.  Way to go Scott.

Nice work, Colin.  And nice work, Scott, at the bonding.  No, I don't mean glue.

Regards,

John

Thanks All,

I let Colin read the thread this evening & he was smiling fro ear to ear.
He's already trying to decide what to tackle next. :)

Great job Colin!

And put me down for a yes vote for the new thread.
If my son ever puts down the electric guitar I may get a tool in his hand.

Way to go Colin. Now what are you going to do to out do that? You set the bar pretty high for yourself. Great job.

Everyone,
I've been following this thread and the interest in a parent-child discussion area, which I think is terrific, and certainly in the spirit of this forum.  Even better if we can show how Festool comes into the picture!

I've created a brand-new board for this purpose, called "Parent/Child Accomplishments."

I've made this discussion the first one in the new board.

If someone has another suggestion for the name, please feel free to speak up.

Matthew

Matthew I think that the board is a great idea and I plan to start a thread or two here soon.  But, the name is a little too specific.  In my case, I work on some projects with my grandchildren and with some children for whom I am an honourary uncle.  How about 'Projects with Children' or 'Joint Adult/Child Projects'?

Scott,  Outstanding job!  You must be very proud!  I like the new forum for threads like this.  Now if I could only pry my kid away from his Xbox360!
