My coronavirus at home project

Some may remember the dust collector I fabricated for my Delta band saw...that was over 3 years ago.  [eek]

I needed to insulate the concrete block cores of a new garage with 2" thick foam from some scrap foam left over from insulating the in-floor heating with Pex tubing. The scraps were all 8' long in various widths. I needed to rip them into 4-1/2" widths and then cross cut them into 3" lengths.

Knowing that cutting or drilling foam always produces a huge mess because of the static cling, I decided to see how well the dust collector would work on the Delta for this application. I actually had little to about zero hope that the situation would be improved.  [sad] [sad]

The first 2 photos are before I started to cut the foam.

The next 2 photos are after I completed cutting the foam. Again, it was one pass ripping the foam to a 4-1/2" width and then 31 cross cuts producing 32 foam blocks 3" in length.

Looks pretty impressive. I wonder if a standard throat plate/insert with a wider mouth (instead of holes) like this kind would improve the result in your particular case:

That's interesting Chuck...I just may take an extra insert I have and modify it with a wider slot.  [smile]

Take a close look at the 1st photo and you'll notice a gray blob of foam that melted from the heat of the blade and adhered itself to the insert, possibly impeding the foam dust evacuation.
