This is my entry for the video contest. I'm not new to the FOG, however I'm new to posting on the FOG, looks like you have to have 5 post to attach a link in a post, so if you see 5 random post from me, thats why! lol

I've been woodworking as a hobby for almost 3 years, been using Festool products for just over a year and can't wait to use them the next 40+ years!

Below is my entry video, hope you enjoy!!

Thanks,

Lance

Great video, Lance.

Nice efficient shop and good looking projects.

Great video! The production and editing were first rate.

How did you mount your camera for those motion shots in the beginning? (following board from rack to table and following saw motion of TS-55).

Charles

Thanks guys!

Charles, I used a GoPro and the GoPro jaws accessory. All my videos are shot with 100% GoPro Hero 3+ Blk Edition, well until this video... The interview part of me I used the Nikon D5300. (Wife's new Christmas gift)

Excellent, I very much enjoyed the very personal response you presented.

However it could have been a bit shorter.

Hi Lance

Your video is one of the best that I have seen for ages. You have an excellent style, really good clear diction and you put together your story and the action in a most entertaining way. I love the use of the 'plank' cam - I have seen it done in professional videos and no better than yours.

I hope that you make a lot more videos and continue contributing to the FOG.

Well done.

Peter

Peter,

Thanks for the kind words, I will start contributing on here for sure, i've been more of a LumberJocks guy in the past, what's one more social networking site going to do, not like I have enough of them! ha

You're assembly cart turned out well by the way, I was designing mine while your videos we're coming out on YouTube.

Since I'm self taught, I go to YouTube to get my knowledge.

Nice video. You hit on a couple of important points. 1-How productive you become with these tools, in the first 10-20 hours of utilization you have paid for the price difference and after that it is money in the bank. 2-Dust collection,  you are not breathing that dust all day, you can't eliminate all dust but you can reduce the amount in the air. Some of the side effect http://humanservices.alberta.ca/documents/WHS-PUB_ch045.pdf. The immediate benefit is that you reduced your cleanup time to 5-10 mn

Lance great job ! ! !

You've set the bar high !  You have a good eye for editing…….something I've been trying to learn.

You said you sold your miter saw for a PS300 Trion……..so I know why the Kapex is in the near future.

I'm afraid that when you start buying more and more Festools you may not have time for fishing……can't you just go buy fish from the market?    [tongue]

Keep up the great work…..I'm glad you got your 5 post in so you could upload and enter into the contest!      [wink]

Eric

Eric,

My first Festool was the PS-300, at that moment I knew I wanted the Kapex, but didn't have the funds for it at the time, figured the PS-300 would do the same job as my Dewalt miter did with breaking down rough lumber, if not better when dealing with twisted stock. I've been without a miter saw for over a year now, first on my list is exactly that, the Kapex with the Midi vac. Hopefully I'm lucky and get some Festool "Bucks"

Editing has come a long way for me, I get a lot of practice with my Adventure videos i make, it all started with my Hawaii 2012 video, first video with FCP X and GoPro, the 19 minute edited video took me a couple weeks to make and 7 days to film, hours of raw footage, but was great for learning the ends and outs of FCP. Unfortunately YouTube has turned off my audio due to some of the music I used in it - Stupid IMO, kinda a little PO'd really - it just happened a couple weeks ago.

I pretty much only work in the shop during the colder months here in OK, summers are too hot! However that's when I go camping and trout fishing as well, so you're right, fishing takes some of my weekends away  [unsure]

I see you stepping up your game though, external audio, multiple angles, different shots with your GoPro - Do you like the GoPro thus far?

I really liked the shelves for your sister that you posted a few months ago, and have "favorited" the business cards. I missed your adjustable cabinets, watching it now.

Good luck on the contest.

The GoPro is great.  Took me a little researching to figure out what setting I should have it on.  It's a cool little camera.  The next thing I need to buy for it is an extra battery and a charger.  The batteries don't last as long as I would like.

Eric, The Battery BackPac is a great accessory, I agree... there a little weak. The Hero 3"PLUS" is SOOOO much better than the original Hero 3. Buy the after market batteries on Amazon, they work just as well. It seems you film more longer clips, I don't film past 1 minute, at the most. The longer the clips, the longer it takes to transfer it to FCP.

Welcome out into the open Lance.  Really like your video & as said previously, you've set the bar high.  I love the Gopro cameras & currently using my brothers Silver edition.  I hope to get the new Black + for myself soon.  What do you use for editing ?  I play around with iMovie but not spent any real time to learn it yet.

Cheers,

Alan

Alan, Thanks for watching the video. The GoPro is as advertised, "The most versatile camera ever" However, there are so many different setting, you have to know how to use it, to take advantage of it, performs poor in low light compared to lets say a DSLR. I recommend FCP X by Apple, similar to iMovie in reference to the interface, that being said I'd jump straight into FCP before really mastering iMovie IMO. Ask Paul, he started with iMovie and then transitioned into FCP X, he will probably have better guidance since I've never used iMovie.

Lance, I've watched your flip top cart video several times and have designed my own that closely resembles yours. I bought the same bearings you did.

What size rod did you use and what were the PVC rings for?

Cochese,

Thanks, that was my first build while filming it, took me FOREVER!!! lol I used regular 3/4" steel dowel/rod from Home Depot, and the cut pieces of PVC's were a cheap spacer to prevent the top from sliding to close or even hitting the side walls, But there's so much weight on there, it does move - Doesn't hurt to have it thought.
