My new Kapex workstation

I sold my dewalt miter saw, and bought a Kapex. I found that the Kapex base was slightly larger than my old recessed area was. I was planning on just moving some cabinets around and making the cabinet the saw sat on a bit wider. So I started taking cabinets out, and the next thing I knew, I had taken out my entire workstation....

I Rebuilt this new one with storage in mind, so 20 drawers later (along with a few upper cabinets) I am almost done.

Here is a picture of the vacuum mounted in the cabinet below the Kapex (yes, I know it is not a festool vac, but it is always hidden behind cabinet doors, and actually works well in this application):

I am using a iVac switchbox that automatically turns the vacuum on/off when there is power to the saw. Works very well.

I also used the MFT as a template, and bored 6 holes into the shelf the Kapex sits on. I bored 4 holes for the feet, and 2 holes for the clamps. That way I can get the Kapex back in the same spot every time.

I am planning on taking out the lumber storage above the right side of the saw, and making a few more upper cabinets.

Both fences (left and right) of the saw are mounted to T-Tracks, so the slide out of the way when I don't need them. The workstation is the same height as the MFT/3, and I have the MFT just to the right of the Kapex. That way I can use the counter top to support sheet goods I am cutting down.

That is a very nice SCMS stand.  I wish I had the room for that.

Dang you! You just cost me another $125 in Kreg parts!

Can everyone please hold off on the pictures of their super cool set ups until I recover from my 2010 Festool binge!

Great job on the miter table!

Jeff,

Just curious - Are you using the standard IVAC Switch or the 20a Pro version?

Also, what did you have to do to fit your ShopVac hose to the Kapex?

Thanks,

Joe

I am using the unit that has 2 plugs so you can plug it into 2 15 amp circuits.  I have both plug going to the same 20 amp circuit, and the kapex and shop vac have never tripped the circuit breaker.

I have the 1.5 inch Ridgid professional hose attached to the Kapex. I took the fitting off the end of the hose, and ran the hose right to the dust port. It is a tight fit, but it works very well.
