My PVC edge trimmer is dead. Who is making the best replacement?

I've been using the good old green edge trimmer for taping melamine for a couple of years, but it's dull and problematic these days I see that Fastcap is making one with a carbide blade or something...

Is it any good? What would you guys buy if it was your money?

My apologies to Mr. CutsTwice for invading his thread, but is the MFK 700 suitable for trimming this type of edging tape, or is it more intended for trimming solid edging?

It would probably work, but I'm looking to use a hand held type of thing that will trim both sides of the melanie t once.

I've used my MFK 700 for trimming that edging tape and I've also used a couple or so of those handheld ones including the FastCap double sided tool.  I bought the one with the carbide blades so it would last longer.  Works fine on the fake material edge band.  Sucks on real wood edge banding, whether using it double sided or separating the halves and doing it like the video shows on the FastCap website.  I have this 'T' shaped one that I believe was made in Germany, orange in color and single sided.  It's worked great for many years and the blade is non-replaceable.

Still prefer the MFK 700 if there's enough to warrant the setup and use.

For thin melamine tape I don't think anything beats the small hand handle units. These units also destroy most wood edging and formica types, which is where the MFK700 shines. The Fastcap is a nice unit and a good bang for the buck. Like Ken I use the MFK700 on everything if there is quantity.

I've used the fastcap trimmer for a couple years now and it really works well for PVC edging.  I feel its much quicker and easier than using a router, even the MFK700.

Looks like I just found a good excuse to buy me an MFK 700. Thanks fellas.

Make sure to get that Festool trim bit 491666 to round out a great working trim solution.  I've tried a freud trim bit in mine and wasn't happy with the results, even though it worked well in "regular" routers.
