I've been oogling other members tool insert organizers and finally got around to starting mine today.  Made good progress too.  Sys4 is the host and I used 3/8 Baltic birch with black laminate on one side.

Made the bottom just barely big enough for a mini-sys.

Pliers, soft hammers, folding ruler, scissors (always need them for one reason or another), ratcheting screw driver with a variety of tips in the handle (like one driver better than a dozen), utility knife, glue spoons

Seems like this is the business end - misc putty knives, chisels (1/4, 1/2, 3/4, 1), and files (flat, half round, and round), ball hex driver (specific to my assembly tables)

Fits like a glove.

Nicely done.  How did you cut the holes for the tools?  They really look like they were machined on a CNC mill!

Very nice!

Looks like some Domino action for the tool slots?

They were in fact cut on a CNC mill with up cutting end mills.

I started by cutting out the basic templates using the templates found on here.

I laminates them because the laminate helps prevent tear out (not really a mill thing) which allows me to run at a much faster feed rate.  It does leave a nice cleanable surface too.

I program one tool (or sets of tools) at a time so I don't have to make a dance fixture.  It takes a little longer to reposition but still is much easier than hand cutting everything.

Thanks.  No domino was used in its construction.  After I was done I realized I could and should have.  It would have been a much better way to hold it together.

That's really slick! Now I wish I had a CNC machine...

Perhaps a green one?

[wink]

What a great job/design....can't stop looking at it. As soon as you said it was CNC'd we all looked towards the floor and sighed....but then thought....maybe he'll pump a few out to sell.  [big grin]
Thanks for the pics

(as someone who has designed and made several systainer inserts) I congratulate you on a job well done.  [thumbs up]
