An idea I had to make it even more art deco is to put short fillers within the slats.
It was your 5/6 slat experiment that gave me that visual idea. Notice how the rear 5-slat mockup is seen through the front 6-slats.
The end of each filler would be beveled / mitered. You can use different material or different color for the fillers.
Now its time to join my wife on watching the Winter Olympics.
Also, I totally see what you mean and I think it's a brilliant idea!
I have so many slats laying around at the moment, I think I'll make a version using your idea. Once I have worked out the technical approaches and developed some muscle memory, this should actually be a pretty quick project to nock out....
