NAINA...or maybe not?

Hi,

I'm off to England for my sister's wedding in November, and this gives me an excellent opportunity to buy Festool stuff NAINA.

So what do you recommend? Obviously it has to be able to be used on a 110V system, but many of the tools are available on a 120V spec anyway in the UK. Also, because Festools are much pricier in the UK than in the US, if it is making its way over here (here being Canada actually) I would prefer to wait.

I am not that interested in a CMS but I was thinking of a vac sys.

Check out the Vac Sys I may pay for you to bring me one. ;D I don't  care about the voltage.

Festool will have to remake them Vac sys and make a Vac T-lock!

I agree with Jonny I think its only in 240V  but most tools are in 110 aswell just not the Vac lol!

I know the vac sys is only available in a 230V configuration, but can I just not run it through a step-down voltage converter?

I'll meet you halfway and ship it from the UK for you! For a small package like something in a sys1 I could bring it back on the plane and send it from Montreal.

But give me a break with a CMS! It's like half an MFT!

I am thinking Carvex or Vac sys for myself, but the Carvex should be here soon, no?

Too bad that you are not interested in the CMS.  Given the opportunity, that is certainly what I would purchase

WHOA THERE!

FAR more important than whether an item is in 110-125V, or 220-240V - for which it is easy to transform into 120V, is whether it has a motor designed to operate at 50 or at 60 cycles (Hz).  It is far more difficult to change the cycles, and you cannot!!!!!! operate a motorized piece of equipment with the wrong cycles.

Europe and mostnations that formerly were European colonies - plus Chile, who threw their lot in with the English rather than with the Americans - and one-half of Japan (now, there[/] they got it way wrong! - operate at 50Hz, NoAm, the rest of LatAm and some of Asia are on 60Hz.

I simply cannot justify the cost, and the transportation would be a nightmare. But it looks fantastic. I also already have a table-mounted router and a belt sander so the extra utility of the CMS would be limited.

Totally correct, but fortunately the vac sys runs at 50-60 HZ so frequency is not at issue. The festool technical data sheet lists power consumption at both frequencies. So I only have to worry about voltage and a step-up transformer should take care of that.

By the way, I believe East and West Tokyo operate at different frequencies, never mind the rest of Japan! How odd!

Well, I guess that makes my 120 volt Vac Sys pretty rare. So what's the starting $bid$ guys?

I will give you 10  times what you paid for it. ;D

Well the good news is that you have one which means it is intended for North America at some point. The bad news is that I cannot find one 110V country that currently sells the vac sys.

Oops, Sorry, I autographed it. That automatically doubles the price (my opinion...obviously not anyone else's).  [big grin]

As a matter of fact, I've got a nice 1-1/2" New York on the grill at this very moment. Ya know, a smart guy just might start tossing ribeyes and tenderloins my way just to see what might get tossed back.  [tongue]

Love the calculator watch! Maybe Festool will offer a package deal when they release the vac system to include a calculator watch!

The vac sys isn't going to be available in the US at all. Shane posted a while ago that it had failed UL certification. Not that they didn't have it yet, but that it failed.  [eek]

The post is HERE.
