NAINA query

I don't want to start a negative aspect to the whole NAINA thing and forgive my ignorance but why are some Festool devices NAINA? I've seen some comments in the past that its a safety thing but find this hard to believe.

I have asked the same question. For example:

Why aren't the attic bit kits available here? Perhaps it's because the attic systainers aren't available here?

SO, why aren't the attic systainers isn't available here?

None of these are safety issues, so I don't get it?

I am probably completely wrong, but here goes.  Since most things electric or power tool wise need UL approval, that is costly to go through the process, add to that the US and the amount of frivolous lawsuits and the fact a lot of Americans don't buy or appreciate quality tools and Festool has lower market share all probably factor in.  Now on certain accessories like others have mentioned, I guess it will remain a mystery.

Who knows, it could also be that there isn't enough of a perceived demand to import some items and tie up funds in slow moving inventory.  The UL issue is very real.

Down here we can get most of the Festool range and yet compared to US and Europe we are a small market.

We are being told all the time by our new Federal Government that we must cut the red tape that supposedly impedes companies operating in Australia, and that the US is a great example of how this should be done. Mmmm! When I read comments like this one by Wooden Skye and similar in other related FOG posts I have to wonder!

At least we have Federal regulations that often unify state consumer and company legislation and our legal system and associations do not encourage 'ambulance chasers'. Our Goods and Services Tax is uniform, collected by the Federal Government and redistributed to the States. We also have no fault workers compensation and in most states vigorous work site inspections.

I can see the UL argument to some extent, but surely the German GS mark is a good starting point for UL approval? Also, I used to be an electronics engineer (few years back) and did a lot of product development for a German company of which nearly everything had to be UL compliant as a bare minimum, my point I suppose is that the European market is not new to UL.

From the 80's in Germany I remember a Gov organization called TUV. Does it still exist and is that the same as the GS mark. I though TUV equated to UL in the states, just tougher...

I saw some strange unmarked black helos leaving with some huge crates.

I didnt pay it much attention.
