Near Field Communications ETS EC 125

I read in a recent review that the ETS EC 125 has NFC, but that the app has not been released in North America. I have not found any mention of this in the owners manual.

Canadian Woodworker:  The sanders are also equipped with NFC (near field communication) capabilities. However, at this time Festool has not made the app that supports this feature available in North America. When available it would enable the user to access usage data from the sander, such as hours used and last date of use, via a mobile device.

Interesting in a commercial environment, but less so for a one person shop like mine I guess.

Agreed that it is a little less "normal" in my shop downstairs, but could be good if you setup NFC on your trailer or job box. I wonder what other applications people could come up with other than security for tools.

In my former career, we used NFC for asset management and tracking on servers and other data center equipment. It also kept asset tags, S#'s, responsible contact, etc.

(Maybe Festool are going to engage it when you try and use a 150 pad on the 125 sander.  It can alert the green and blue police!!)

Is this the same thing as Milwaukee Red Link?  I'm not up on my asset management protocols...
