Need help with parallel guides!

I have a couple of questions about the guides. First, my stops are not flush, where it meets the material, all the way across. There is a little ridge toward one end. Is this normal? Second, when I calibrate the stops to the saw blade tooth, do I set the guides when this ridge hits the tooth, or when the "rebate" hits the tooth? I seem to be a 1/16" off of where the cut should be. I set the guides up at 305mm, pushed them against the material flush on both sides, and drew a line against the splinter guard. Measured from the end of the material to the line, and like I said, about 1/16" too long for 1' (305mm). Please help this rookie figure out where I'm going wrong.

Thanks!  [blink]

Pictures might help. But, I'm sure someone will help you sort it out soon

Hi, yes pics would help, but I think I know what you mean.
Yes the little ridge is what should be touching the material....almost like a little standoff...and yes when you calibrate (the thin rip guides) or zero the saw the ridge should touch the tooth of your saw. It had me a little puzzled when I first saw it as well...lol....but the way the stop is designed it takes into account the 1/16 or so the ridge stick up over the rest of the stops surface.

suggest searching you tube for a video by Steve Bace ( Festool instructor at Henderson) about setting up and calibrating the parallel guides. His video could be for the LR 32 system, but i believe he has one for the parallel guides.

There are some good videos that I think Brian Sedgely did.  I'll look for them and edit this post.

That was easy.

Kris a better link  Brice Burrell's Review of the Festool Parallel Guides  on google  . This one has Brice's photos imbedded in the text.

Thanks everyone for the replies. I would have replied sooner but I mistakenly didn't set the replies to come to my email. I did set the ridge to the tooth. However, the problem, as I saw it, lied in the setup of the parallel guides. They were set at about 190mm and I moved them to about 193mm. After this adjustment, they were right on.
