So I decided to attempt to make a purchases from Amazon.DE and was notified they can't ship that item to the US.  I then made the purchase with Conax UG via Papal last Saturday and haven't received any shipping updates.  I emailed the seller directly and haven't heard a word back.

It looks like I'll be attempting to get a refund and possibly trying elsewhere.

I'll keep this in mind if things don't work out.

Once I opened a dispute with Pay-Pal they finally responded.  They say they are waiting to receive a shipment.  I'm wondering if new Covid lockdowns in Germany are slowing things down?

They really shouldn't be selling stuff if they don't have it on hand.  Otherwise folks are deciding to buy from them verses other businesses who don't take their money for stuff they don't have.  Then when stock comes back, they get all these sales verses the other businesses who didn't take orders when out of stock.

I may be able to background some of the issues about buying Festool from Amazon.de. Quite a few years ago someone in Australia organised a few very big group buys direct from Germany but not through Amazon and the proverbial hit the fan when everyone including the Oz distributor worked out what had happened. In Oz we are used to buying extensively from international suppliers so the group transaction was not a strange thing to do. The Oz distributor went nuts about the whole thing and since then only accessories such as sanding discs etc are the only things they will allow to be bought internationally.

Amazon used to routinely not sell a lot of items internationally but that seems to have stopped in the last year or so and I have not been stopped buying anything at all.

Well, now Amazon is probably the bigger party in such disputes... so the forcefield is reversed...

Not sure if for the better on many other issues..
