New 10.8v tools?

Do you think Festool will ever (as in the next few years) expand their 10.8v range to have more tools running off the CXS battery platform?

Despite previously talking myself out of it and knowing it's not brushless I've still got a hankering for the CXS, but it just seems like a bad investment as other manufacturers open the door to many 10.8v tools if I were to buy one of their 10.8v drills.

If I'm going to invest in cordless, I want selection.  I love the big red M12 series - there are at least 8 tools in that series that are my go-to tools for that type of tool (screwdriver, drill, impact driver, flashlight, rotary tool, infrared sensor, clamp-on multimeter, hammer drill, palm nailer, radio, oscillating tool - that's 10).  I have enough batteries to run 2-3 tools all day if I were ever to need that.  Are they Festool quality?  No.  But for what I do with them, I don't need Festool quality.

I just got a 14.4V Festool battery at the roadshow and I can't figure out what it's good for, besides obsolete drills.

I could be wrong , but it should work on any 15v or 18v tool. The older model 15v batteries that came with my Ti15 are running my TSC55 just fine.

Just because something isn't brushless doesn't mean it's a bad investment. Yes, brushless is nice but in no way shape or form should the absence of a brushless motor mean a tool is not worth purchasing. There are an absurd amount of tools out there without brushless motors that have probably been working since the 90's or longer. I've had my CXS for three years now and it works perfectly.

Now a bad investment due to lack of selection on a battery platform, I can see that.

The shape of the Festool 10.8v battery is not exactly compact, it suits the CXS but it also limits it's use in what other smaller tools it could be used for.

I have no inside knowledge, but I would bet you gobs of money that the CXS will remain the only tool powered by that battery.  It is an odd stand-out/one off in their cordless line -- There are probably historical/product development reasons historical reasons why they didn't integrate it with their other cordless tools.
