I just noticed the 5,2 Ah battery pack has been replaced with a new 5,0 Ah. Even in the new print catalogue there's still the 5,2 version, how come this has changed and what's the difference?

I'm in the middle of renewing my batteries, therefore better wait for the 5,0 or buy the 5,2?

Since it is not labeled "high power" (like the 4 Ah or 8 Ah), my wild guess is they had to, or wanted to, change cells/ the supplier of cells (maybe because of supply constraints or whatever) but probably also wanted to keep the design/size* and now it simply doesn't add up to the .2

If it had any special features over the "old" 5.2 Ah battery pack, it would have been promoted. If you hadn't posted I wouldn't even have looked, it just silently took the place of the "old" 5.2 Ah battery pack.

*If you have the "old" style T-Loc and matching PDC 18/4 insert for example, you can't even get the PDC in with the 4.0 Ah "high power" battery pack installed. I've gone over this with Festool, they were nice enough to send me the most current T-Loc Systainer PDC 18/4 insert and it still wouldn't fit. So my guess is, if they went for different/ the current "high power" cells they would have had to change the design/size of the battery packs, and people buying these as replacements wouldn't be able to fit their "old" tools in their "old" Systainer inserts.

Just keep that in mind when replacing batteries.

Of course, I'm just a guy - Festool may have had other reasons. Maybe we see an announcement/promotion, maybe not.

Kind regards,
Oliver

I guess you're right, probably a last minute switch due to supply or production issues, otherwiese they would have had the 5,0 version in the brand new 2023 print catalogue as well.

As if anyone is ever going to notice a real-world difference between the two besides the sticker ".2"

There are a bunch of 18650 suppliers and Festool probably switched around to another one / the series they used is discontinued, etc. etc.
Or maybe the tweaked the BMS to prolong cycle life by blocking the lower 4% of charge; that would actually be very good.

I spotted the battery change too, and it's got me curious. As for the 5,0 Ah replacing the 5,2 Ah, it could be a brand or product adjustment rather than an improvement in capacity.
If you're in a hurry to renew your batteries, you might want to compare the specs of the 5,0 Ah and 5,2 Ah to see if the 5,0 Ah will meet your needs.

I wonder what these bots get out of posting here?

They will do a days-later or months-later edit to their AI-produced fever dream of a post to include a link to whatever spam site they're designed to hawk, since otherwise including a link in a first-ever post usually gets filtered out or caught by settings.

That said, what they get out of that spam site, I have no idea.  With fewer than 100 posts per day on the FOG, it's not exactly a target-rich environment, and it's a tight-knit enough group that their posts usually find their way into the trash pretty quickly.

Especially since we have our own officially designated Dewey Decimal System guy... [smile]
