Just got the table on my new laguna lt18 3000.  Really nice saw. What do you think about this table? Scrached, dinged amd throat plate looks terrible and it is out 10 thousandth from front to back. What tolerances are acceptable?

I doubt that you would get one much flatter, it is a crap shoot now with castings.

Scratches to me are no big deal, because it will end up with scratches from use any way.

The throat plate will probably not get any better.

I would want a new table due to that gouge, but only because it is a new saw.

I have had several machines that had slight casting voids on some part of the table, but they were just fine for the last 100 years and will be just fine for the next 100.

Good info. Thanks.

The long scratch at the back i can put my fingernail in. Dont think that is an acceptable scratch?

The one at a right angle to the miter slot?

That sounds deep, but as long as the wood goes over it and does not hang up, its purely cosmetic.

Since it's new, I would complain about the gouge.  Cast iron is fairly soft, but something hit that with some force.

Here are a few pics of the motor

I have the same saw and had a similar issue with the throat plate - the rest of the saw was in good shape, and I would not be happy either looking at the damage yours has

I called Laguna directly and was more than happy with their response.  They immediately sent out a brand new throat plate (so it is not the first time they have heard of this problem) and for my troubles, they also sent me a brand new blade

Call them and at least broach the subject of a replacement saw or a hefty discount to keep the one you have

(note - I am sure some members here would just say "does it effect the performance of the saw", yada yada yada... but when you pay good money for a NEW saw...)

Thanks John. I have emailed the director of sales for our region with the photos and expressing my disappointment with the amount of damage.

WOW! is there a single piece of this machine that's not "fubar"? They need to send you a new machine asap, and you unpack every piece and inspect before they leave. That is total BS for the money you paid for it.

I posted this because i wanted to be sure i wasnt being overly picky. Im not sure what laguna will do. Im assuming they wont do too much according to their terrible track record of service. I was very skepticle of buying one of their products. I guess i should have stuck with my gut feeling.....

That saw either fell over, or something was smashed into it.

I could excuse the table scratches, but the rest of the pictures show obvious shipping damage.

Table scratches are superfluous.

The other pictures look like it was dropped.

I agree with you. I was willing to put up with a few small imperfections but this seems like a little too much regardless of the price tag.
