New battery platform tools...

After the launch of the new sander battery platform with a transformer for going corded I can think of a few tools that would be good/great to share that new platform:

OFK500 edge/trim router - would make perfect sense and work well. Makita has one already but I think OFK500 in 18V would be awesome.

EHL65 planer. Yes. Please! This planer would work great with the new batteries I think. :)

Vecturo 18V - might be a little chunky with the transformer though I think Festool really could use a Vecturo in the 18V line up.

Hammer drills - switch to corded for many holes/heavy duty and go cordless when needed. Great.

Jigsaw though they already have 18V jigsaws I think the battery shape lends itself well to the jigsaw, perhaps something for a future jigsaw - one that cuts square?  ;)

It would make sense to build further on that battery platform since they use the same charger as the "normal" batteries and I don't really see a problem with having two types of batteries as long as you can have one charger platform. I am already at a point where each machine has a dedicated battery + spare. It would suffice to have a battery for each machine and one spare.

Of course it would be easier to have the same battery platform across the board but for the above machines the option of switching between cordless/corded makes sense, more so than with a drill that already does 600 screws on one charge and would not be any better with a corded option...

Got the chance to talk to a Festool rep from Germany at a local Demo today.

He seemed to be genuinely interested in feedback and two of us spent half an hour going through some likes/dislikes and wants and wishes.

We talked about the new batteries and they are well aware that the form factor and plug it transformer opens up new possibilites. I told him we would like to see a Vecturo and a OFK or other router and by his reply it seemed they were nothing more than concepts on paper yet but he asked questions back on why we wanted it and how we would use it and we talked back and forth on dust collection with battery tools.

At least he acknowledged that they had ideas for the new possibilities with the new batteries.
