New Bosch worksite table saw

i like how small it is and easy (looking [smile]) it is . looks perfect for site use as it is designed hopefully [wink] for this. wouldnt take up too much space in the van.

JMB, what is this "cheap Karcher thingy"?

Tim

It's a Keller 1700watts  dead light I could swing it around my head by the Cord ol.

The saw differs from it's big brother in that:
...handle tougher materials that the model 4100 handles with it's Constant Response Circuitry

Thanks Ken.

Lol u 2! I was joking! I might do a video still! Swing it round while it's going. Would be nice if it had saw stop incase the blade tried to cut my ear off while I was swinging it above my head.lol

Same here, I have the little DeWalt and i don't really care for it.I can not cut anything straight!!.
I also have the big Bosch.Great saw,but it stays home now since i sold my trailer i can't haul it in my truck.
Hope this little saw works out good.

I purchased the 4000 back in '02-'03 and still love it.  It is really the best saw in that market segment.  While I don't do carpentry for a living, I do enough things that just thinking about carrying that beast up from the basement to do a project makes me cringe.  The fence looks like the same design as its larger brother and if it's just as good  I'll be purchasing it in a few months.

LT great job on the router insert.  I'll also be trying that out soon. Recent new member of the FOG and very glad I stumbled across it.

Can't cut straight with the dew alt?
Hhhmmmmm must be a lemon cuz I love mine.
Actually I'm a Bosch fan but wouldn't trade my little dew alt for that Bosch.

Never ever had an issue with the dewalt.

I examined the Bosch saw at a woodworking saw.  They had just received it the day before and were just unboxing it, so I didn't get a chance to actually try it.

Few things I noticed:
The throat plate is terrible.  It's about 1/8" steel that is easily bendable and therefore hard to keep flat.  It's got the same black metal pieces at the back that the Dewalt have that are lower, which means small pieces will hang up on the table.  Apparently this is for the anti kick back pawls to keep them for scratching.  And it's got these two little tabs in the back that are a pain to get lined up to fit into the table (mainly cause the metals so flimsy you can't keep them straight).  Not sure if you could make your own zero clearance insert.
Everything stows underneath and actually locks down.  Much nicer than the Dewalt.
The saw snaps into it's stand, instead of a bunch of screws like the Dewalt
Weighs 45lbs, just like the dewalt, but has more hand holds.  And it's designed to sit on it's side as well as the bottom, so easier to transport.
The locking mechanism for the extended rails gets in the way of fence, so you have to move the fence all the way to the right to retract the rails.

All in all, it seemed nicely designed, but the throat plate and Dewalt's rack'n pinion fence will keep me using it.

what parts are you refering to that hold up small pieces.
the throat plate is 3mm steel. this seems strong enough. if it were plastic then yes but it is only a site saw , you wont be using the same as a big 5+horse rip saw.

Or maybe yours is a lemon but a good lemon! You've just been lucky!

CAN NOT CUT STRAIGHT!!!! [sad] [crying]
I'm glad you like yours!

My DW745 often finds itself out of alignment. The cut always closes up at the end, so the out feed side keeps misaligning towards the blade. The screws are tight, so I know it's not that they are loosening up...must be the little trolls at night. Oh well...till something better comes along!

When the saw kerf closes up at the end of the board as your cutting it it is the board bowing from the cut your making causing a relief of the tension within the board. Why we use saws with riving knives. Keeps the rear of the saw blade from marking up or grabbing your board

With the release of this new Bosch model I wonder if Makita will be releasing a new version of its 2708 some time soon.  It would be great to have one with a riving knife and DC pickup,  especially if it adapts to the Rousseau stands like the old one did.

Kevin, I already posted the info on Makita.  The answer is no.  No new models till after the dust settles over SawStop patents and Ryobi style lawsuits.

Shoe Maker, the saw actually moves itself out of whack on the rack & pinion...the distance to the blade will be different after realigning it from front of blade to the back. I did purchase mine pre-riving knife and I do have certain instances when I know the board is binding due to a bowed board but I understand that when I run a bowed board through. It is nice to see a riving knife finally getting to other manufacturers!

At the back, there is a depression with thin black metal.  You can shim them up with tape, but it's a pain.

blown up from product shot

And it probably would be strong enough, but it bends at the little strip that's between the two halves.  Also, I really like zero clearance inserts, and I don't know if that's possible w/o some serious fiddling.
