New Car : Made in Germany

Hello,

I recently took over a lease on a 2012 VW Golf 2.5 litre, 2 door hatchback, 5 speed.  The guy I assumed the lease from had taken absolutely great care of the car, not a speck of dirt on it.  He showed me the summer tires, on rims, and his garage was spotless. 

I didn't realize until today, that subconsciously I was drawn to the fact the car was "Made in Germany".  I hope I can keep the car as clean as he did, but I doubt it.  Off to the lumber yard to pick up some hardwood for a vanity and pantry I have in progress.

I know a VW Golf is not everyone's idea of a luxury car, but for me it gives me the same joy as I get when I am using my Festools.  It is all the car I will ever need (and then some) !

Yes, great car, my step-mother has one, but aren't the Golfs destined for the NA market made in Mexico?!!

Not all of them, it depends on the year.

Wolfsburg used to be the hub of VW engineering/mfg (at the end of last century) and Nickersulm was the same for the lesser Audis. VW also had a big plant in Puebla, Mexico where I recall they made a lot of cars for North America and South/Central. It's my understanding that the Puebla plant has less production now. I don't know about the above mentioned German plants. I suspect they are still quite busy. I've been to all three in a previous life...

VW's and Audis have long shared some injection molded interior parts.

German cars are premium cars. No matter wath cars i buy there has always been atleast one german Car in the Family.

No matter were its made in the world, There is a german uber meister walking around The factory with his boots, black coat och luger making shure quality it at german levels.

I recently went from an Audi A4 to an RSQ3. It's turned out to be a great move ... I love the way it can be totally docile to drive and switch to ballistic when the mood dictates.

The Germans have mastered the Jekyll and Hyde driving experience like no other car makers.

I can relate to that! those years had some real POS cars

I would love to get my hands on a Mercedes Unimog.  You know there awesome when the Hummer based its suspension off of the Unimog design.  They are very expensive in the states though.

My dad was in 2 accidents in merecedes. One he was driving and rolled it 360 degrees bounced it on its roof back onto its wheels and drove it home. The other time he was a passenger in the rear. The car went straight on at a roundabout (rotary) and flipped length ways and landed on its roof. Both times he walked away without a scratch.

I had a 07' 2.5l 5 cylinder 2 door rabbit. And loved that car. Its still in the family cause i gave it to my daughter  when she turned 16. Im a big guy and thats a small car but its deceptively  big on the inside so it was really comfortable. I made a custom tool box for work to fit in the back with the seats down. On the job no one believed that i fit my rig in the back of a rabbit.

Wathever I buy I prefer that it is made in Germany. This is why I stopped to buy Metabo, it is made i PRC and maybe boxed in Germany. The lack of Real quality control caused me to return a Metabo drill 2 times, it alway got a new in return, but still there where different issues that clearly shows that they have not checked it properly before shiping. When I got the 3rd one it was in perfect condition. However, it has worked very well for 5-6 years so the build quality is good! All of my Festools have been in absolutely perfect condition on arrival.

Aren't most VW's in the US made in either Brazil, Mexico or Tennessee? VW certainly does manufacturing all over the world.
