Very nice however Festool dust collection is king and having to change the dust boxes moves the saw into a specialty application
category.  But, if you need it you need it.  Building a hunting camp in the wild, etc.   [smile]

Now ! If they could just update the track to be like the mafell so sections can bE linked together straight you would have the ultimate portable small foot print system. Hey festool fix the rail connector situation and the sacrificial strips need to be fixed so they stay stuck !

I could have used it last week.  I was using my newTS55R in  real mud hole.  I never used the vac but rigged a dust bag up.  It worked great as long as you never let the bag get full. Before you say it not CT good but definitely better as you could really tell when the bag was getting full.  Now if i could have kept my cord from being a muddy snake dirtying the panels that would have been all the better.

Does this saw use a battery specifically designed for it, or a standard 18V?

If it ain't introduced in NA in April, I may end up bringing one back from Germany in June [tongue]....but the battery issue needs to be resolved.  Any clues??

Obviously I can't state this as fact, but you'd image they would have to be ... the entire Festool cordless ecosystem would dictate their need for compatibility.

(In other words I wouldn't hesitate in your situation)

Maybe you could strap on some long range tanks and do an early season Santa in a chopper [big grin]

I won't have a need for the cordless TS55 but i sure would like some of the festool hearing protection he had.

and Frank i would have to agree with Kev..... I can't see them using a different battery other than what they already offer.

  I was talking to the festool guy today in my local tool store and he showed me the new saw plus the cordless hammer drill plus the new multitool,  the saw runs off one or two 18 volt batteries,, very nice but as I am always hooked up to dust extraction these days I will stick to mains power,

  Also I am on the point of buying a new plunge saw , I explained to the festool rep about my concerns with the rails joined together and not being straight , his answer was that when they are tightened up there should be a straight edge alongside to check they are straight.

  I like festool gear but I think on this occasion I will go down the Mafell road.

Spent a few hours at my dealer in Germany today.

The batteries for the TSC55 ARE compatible with the other 18V batteries in the Festool line.  There are four options for packages here in Europe...or at least in Germany:
1: TSC55, 2 Batteries, 2 chargers, standard rail, Dust Bag - €754 excl VAT
2: TSC55, 2 Batteries, 1 charger, standard rail, Dust Bag -  €709 excl VAT
3: TSC55, 2 batteries, 2 chargers, no rail, Dust Bag - €709 Excl VAT
4: TSC55, 2 batteries, 1 charger, no rail, Dust Bag - €660 Excl VAT

I am going to post a new thread shortly with info derived on all the products I either saw or got info on today.

For what it's worth, I ordered option #4 today with the proviso that it would be cancelled in the event that North America announces it available on 1 April. (Unlikely)
Price in Euro without VAT (which I am exempt from) for #4 is 2  €660,00 or with the terrible US$ rate at the moment about $840.00

(I'll sell the 240V Charger on eBay or somewhere and buy a US 110V charger to supplement the one I already have)

Same batteries that are on the carvex, the pdc drills, etc. 4.2 ah 18v.

it is novel, but the dust baggie is silly.  I guess for a couple cuts when it matters it would do.
