New counters from recycled flooring and Surfix

Turned out ok.  Recycled walnut flooring and 4 coats of Surfix.  Not a bad upgrade for under 200 bucks....

How does the surfix oil hold up for counter use? I've never used it but very interested in the product it looks very nice!

I'm not sure how well it holds up in this application.  This is my first time using it.  It goes on really nicely and seems to really penetrate the wood- so, I'm hopeful.  We have a family of 4 with two small kids- lots of mashed berries and such, so I guess we will see!  I'll report back after we have a few months of use under our belts.

Nice job!  The surface has a very pleasant glow to it.  Is that from hand rubbing the four coats of Surfix or did you do some polishing?

mike- I just used the white viles pad that came in the Surfix kit and did one polish with it at the end.  I like the kit, but the instructions on the exact sequencing are a bit vague- i even spent a fair bit of time seeing if there were other user-generated instructions on the web, but all those seemed to differ from each other as well.  In the end, I sanded the raw wood to 180 then applied oil followed by the green vlies; repeated the oiling and green vlies; then sanded with 220 (cause why not?); one more oil and green vlies; and finished with a fourth application of oil followed by the white vlies.  Not sure if that's the right way to do it, but it seems to have worked.
